Can't you just call where you got it? Or OBX and ask? If not wouldn't the warranty cover it? I mean if its NIB it would have to be a defect.

I pm'd hybrid hatch, he said his was the same way. Makes me nervous, but pending communication from OBX I'll probably run it. I've got a couple spare gearboxes laying around, I know from hybrid hatch I can get a couple timeslips and a few thou miles (he says he's up to 3000 on it), etc.

Preferrably give the jingly ones to you H-series boys. I'd prefer tight tolerances, personally, between my experiences with machining and women.

My friend's OBX one also rattles. The quaife unit I just got does the same thing. Although mine isn't as loud just do the fact that the darn thing is really sticky... Quaife didn't ship it covered with gear oil as opposed to the obx one which shipped with gear oil all in it to keep it from any chance rusting I suppose? Not sure, but in a nut shell don't worry about the noise. You'll be fine.

When i had my quaife, which i sold to precisionh23,brand new,it did rattle a little, not too much though.besides, why would u want the gears rubbing on each other more and create more friction???Tighter tolerances in machining are good in some things, not all.

Point made, but I think an experienced comparo is in order. I can see how a Quaife packed in (what I'm guessing is) cosmoline wouldn't rattle as much as an OBX packed in funny smelling kerosene based oil, though.

Here's to waaay to much moxie and not nearly enough brains

Well,i havnt seen an obx in front of me,so i couldnt make a comparison. From my observance of the quaife i had, only the outside was lined with the (cosmoline like) substance. The inside gears did drip a thinner type of oil, which a little was on the bag too.I didnt bother smellin it,so i cant say what it smelled like.......
Mekkis, who are you to judge me whether i have enough brains or not?

Only time will tell.Im sure someone will break one eventually, just like im sure someone has and will break a quaife again. It's just a matter of if you are willing to spend the extra money and have that piece of mind....or pay less, and everyday wonder whether its gonna break or not.

If all goes well, I hope to install one in the close ratio SOHC tranny.

I remember when Anthony brought that thing out to the "Sams Club Parking Lot" (rice gathering and yes I used to be a little rice boy ) and it did rattle a bit but it still looked purty

Out of curiousity, what gear combo are you using? I'm thinking of doing some tranny work if I'm going to get this. Thinking mostly taller final drive, since I'm turbo...
