New pistons and rods, what oil to use after break in?
I've got JE 9:1 pistons and Manley rods that I put in my GSR. There is a tiny bit of rod knock but I hear that is normal, and it almost goes completely away when warm. Now since I've broken in the motor with some non detergent oil, I'm going to run on some regular dyno oil for a while. After that I finally get to go back to synthetic. What viscosity is everyone running on built motors? I used to run 5w-30 on my stock bottom end, but from my understanding built motors have a little bit more clearance than stock. Will 5w-30 still be ok or do i need to move up to like a 40 blend to fill in cleareances?

Re: New pistons and rods, what oil to use after break in? (Aeka GSR)
after about 1500 miles i would move to synthetic 10w-30.
Although on this little sheet I got from Larry/TOO/Endyne.. he recommends Mobile1 5w-30...
What kind of non-detergent oil did you find?

Coastal 30w. Autozone had some hidden in the back, not all the employees knew about it.
