New to FI, D17 questions:
I am pretty new to the whole turbo idea. I have thought about just doing a k20 swap and doing all motor set up but that seems to be the most expensive thing i could do, so i just want to turbo my D17 instead. I was just wondering basically what i would need to turbo it aside from the turbo kit, to fully build my motor. I was thinking a new cam, springs, retainers, bored w/ sleeves, bigger injectors, and stuff like that but i don't know what companies make this stuff for SOHC vtec's or what are the best parts/correct parts for my motor, also what things i need to replace to make the most power out of this motor, reliably and cost effectively (not that i am cheap, but i am not looking to dump $15000 into a sohc motor) So if anyone could help me with some opinions, or experiences that would be good.

you could run a turbo on stock internals, just at a low boost with not that high of numbers...that seems to be the route you should take because if you go crazy with rebuilding then your final cost will be through the roof...

You have alot to learn about turbos.. Sure, if you want to run 18 psi from a tiny turbo then you will be fine.. And 8psi for daily driving, try that with a T3/T4 and youll see what I mean..
The psi your running has nothing to do with your setup.. Figure out how much power you want/can put out and set the boost to do that power.. The turbo your running will determine how much power you put out and at what boost level..

like i said, i am new to the whole turbo thing... i wanna be around 220whp daily driving and around 380 whp on high boost if that is possible. i think for that much i will need to build the block and replace the internals, correct?

Want a better idea here.. Do a simple turbo setup on your car with stock internals so you can learn more about it.. Blowing a stock d-series motor is not bad and can be replaced for cheap.. Blowing a fully built motor because of something you didnt know kinda sucks.....I know this from experance..

I am getting some good opinions but no one is really helping me learn anything yet, anyone want to share a set up that they have and maybe some numbers?

Not too sure how much the D17 motor differs from the D16 but I would assume that they are close to the same design and can get the same power from both of them..

Re: (tgreaves)
check this out
D17 Turbo in a 2001+ Civic
he puts out 220whp and 207 ft/lbs at 11psi with a T3-60 trim. (stock internals)
I believe they also have a kit for the D17's now.

Re: (quicksilver17981)
Go to http://www.7thgencivic.com and look at the Forced Induction forum. There are 20+ turbos running around the country now, anywhere from 150hp to 250hp to the wheels on stock motors.
The D17 is very different from the D16, nothing fits and the fuel system is returnless, so it's a lot more complicated and expensive to turbo. The kit posted above is the bottom of the line kit, Dezod Motorsports is coming out with one that looks to be very good, and there's always the custom route.

Yeah - that's right - they are different. So much so that when someone sees a boosted D17 that's done right their jaw hits the floor! At least that's the response I got when I took my car to the track for the first time on Wed.....
There were lots of people that stopped and asked questions, because no one seems to want to waste their time with the D17, when in reality, it has some great potential. The initial outay of cash is steep, but the rewards are great!

Re: (opto_isolator)
Right right, well the price of a built/turbo D17 still is less than doing a swap into these civics. After buying the motor, the mounts, axles, computer, and the parts that will inevitably need to be replaced... its a little ridiculous. Oh well, thanks again for everyone who posted, hopefully i will have something nice and fast to show you guys in a couple of months.
