New bigger/better setup = Less ET/MPH/Power?!?
Here is my dilemma.
Last year's setup was:
Bensen 84mm sleeved GSR block
9:1 CP pistons
Eagle rods
Balanced/micropolished etc etc
Stock ITR head
ST valve springs and retainers
Stock ITR intake manifold
GSR 60mm throttle body
2" taper to 2.75" IC piping
Spearco IC
GT30R with smaller .63AR turbine, .60 Comp
Onefab top mount
38mm tial gate
25psi netted me 12.02@129mph in the 1/4 on 225/45r17 BFG DR, 2.1 60', 8.2@100mph in the 1/8. Reving motor to 9500 at 25psi
This year:
Same thing but 84.5mm bore/pistons, same brand and everything
Added portflow port/polish, ST valves. Reused valve train.
Added Edlebrock Victor X
Added Power products 65mm TB
2.5" piping from turbo to TB
Same IC
GT35R, smaller .63 turbine, .70 Comp
Tial 44mm gate
EVERYTHING else the same, same 3" exhaust from turbo back.
at 25psi, it netted me 12.3X@122mph in the 1/4 on 225/45r17 BFG DR, 2.1 60', 8.5@94mph in the 1/8. Reving motor to 9500 at 25psi.
Soo.. wth? lol With the new larger turbo and better flowing head, this thing should be maknig huge power at that boost levels. Same car weight, 2600lbs w/ me and 1/4 tank of gas. Same drivetrain. Same tires, my 1/4 and 1/8 times are both .3 slower, but 60's are the same. Also way less MPH... Reving the same, same boost levels. No boost leaks. Same ignition timing maps so far, never got to tweak those as of yet. Only thing differnet with the tune is, last year was 11.5a/f in boost, this year I was at 10.5a/f, didn't get a chance to elan it out, but I don't think it would make THAT big of a diff because going from 10.5 to 11.5 on my last years setup didn't really net me anymore power or ET... Any suggestions or ideas would be great... I'm lost. The only thing I can think of that I'm donig differnetly this year is, I'm launchnig at 7000rpm, no boost, and feathering throttle till I catch 2nd gear, where as before I was launching at mid 4000's WOT at 10psi of boost. But my 60's are still the same so that kinda negates that I would think.
To make it easier to see:
Last year:
2.1 60'
12.02@129mph in the 1/4
8.2@100mph in the 1/8
Reving motor to 9500 at 25psi w/GT30R
11* total timing at 25psi @ 11.5a/f
This year:
2.1 60'
12.3X@122mph in the 1/4
8.5@94mph in the 1/8
Reving motor to 9500 at 25psi w/GT35R
11* total timing at 25psi @ 10.5a/f

especially if you are running race fuel.

No HP numbers cause I street tune it.. on a basic conservative ignition map right now with a .75*/psi retard. as I said. hadn't gotten a chance to lean it out more yet, thus the 10.5 A/F :S
I could see being a bit too rich would rob pwoer, but that much power? where my ET and MPH would be lower even with a better/bigger setup?

I'll lean it out more after I get it back on the road(broken diff) and see how she goes...
