Need your Expert Advice on Mitsu Turbo...
I am looking at purchasing a Mitsubishi 17C Turbo from ebay as I know the seller personally.
Pictures of the turbo can be seen at :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ndexURL=0&rd=1
It has a Garrett style 4 bolt T3 flange with 3 bolt downpipe flange.
I plan on running stock internals with maybe hondata in the future. As for now the plan is to run a simple FMU with max 6psi boost....small intercooler.
My question: Is it worth my time trying to use it for my B18B1 integra
1. It should bolt right up to a Revhard/Drag manifold right? What kind of downpipe can I use for that configuration? Stock drag/revhard 2.5 inch with flex pipe work? Will I see boost creep because of the internal wastegate?
2. How does it compare to a T3/TO4E in terms of reliability (it is water cooled) and efficiency/power/spool time.
3. Will there be any fitment issues? (Shaving block/slim fans/etc.)
4. Downsides to using this turbo that I didn't think of? Wrong size/Lotsa Lag/Too old?
5. What should I check for when I go see the turbo for myself? How do you know whether there is turbo shaft play or not?
Sorry for the tonne of newbie questions but I really want be part of the darkside....

imo now it is not worth it... its a really small turbo and will die out up top... once again this is my opinion
1. It should bolt right up to a Revhard/Drag manifold right? What kind of downpipe can I use for that configuration? Stock drag/revhard 2.5 inch with flex pipe work? Will I see boost creep because of the internal wastegate?
it will bolt up granted it really is a t3 flange i didnt look at the measurement that closely) a stock drag/revhard dp will not work... they have 5 bolt flanges while this one requires a 3 bolt
2. How does it compare to a T3/TO4E in terms of reliability (it is water cooled) and efficiency/power/spool time.
as long as the car is idled after any amount of harder running... the water jacket doesnt matter... some people swear by them... but u really dont need them
3. Will there be any fitment issues? (Shaving block/slim fans/etc.)
its a pretty small turbo but i cant be for sure... i wouldnt want to give u the wrong anwser
4. Downsides to using this turbo that I didn't think of? Wrong size/Lotsa Lag/Too old?
well it says it has some shaft play... thats not a good sign... i mean all turbos have some... it depends how much... lag will generally non-existant with this turbo... i believe it is the wrong size as it is too small... and i have no idea how old it is
5. What should I check for when I go see the turbo for myself? How do you know whether there is turbo shaft play or not?
this is something u have to have experience in... if u dont know what it should feel like... then u wont be able to tell... i mean if there is extreme shaft play... then u know its bad
Sorry for the tonne of newbie questions but I really want be part of the darkside....
everyone starts someplace

Re: Need your Expert Advice on Mitsu Turbo... (ek9t)
thanks for the reply ek9t...I appreciate it.
But I was wondering why you say it is a small turbo. It's pretty big and 550 cfm is quite a lot of airflow (If I am not mistaken at 73% efficiency the TO4E 40 trim flows about 440 cfm)

Re: Need your Expert Advice on Mitsu Turbo... (xero-cool)
the 40 trim is also really tiny... the all around turbo for todays honda street cars is at least a 57 trim... anything smaller and u wont be makeing much power...
