Default Piston Comparison, not a newb, need some advice

Comparing the wiesco with the Je(not srp). The over all quality, daily drivability, along with 12 pounds of boost, maybe a little more. Which would YOU prefer. And could you state reasons. JE's are the universal "built motor" piston, but cost a ton and weisco, other than endyn, I have not heward much about...sorry for ranting but thanks for your help.

I did a lot of research on this and spoke to people at JE as well as Larry at Endyn. I do not regret my choice. Larry's business practices and past decisions have been under constant fire, but I don't think anyone can deny that when it comes to combustion technology, the man knows his $hit. He answered every question I had in levels of detail that I could not get from the other guys. For example, all D series engines have the same bore and stroke, but the layout of the DOHC D series engines (ZC/D16A1/A8/A9) combustion chamber is different. Larry knew the layout and details of every D series head as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each one and was able to make recommendations on squish clearance, milling/decking, and porting each configuration. My experience with Endyn, to date, has been exceptionally positive.

I looked at the JE piston for the ZC and basically looked like someone took a ZC piston and whacked the dome off. JE's rep for building high quality, high performing, super tough pistons is well deserved. However, in my particular case, I was looking for something specific and I got with the Rollerwaves.

If there is a good tuner out there that has been unhappy with Rollerwave pistons, I have yet to hear about him/her...and I talked to several before making my choice.

My 2 cents...

Sonny

Sorry, I should have stated that I will not buy pistons from ENdyn...these will be bought from a reputable dealer.

Give ross pistons a try, if not go JE. Wiseco are low-tech domestic pistons. The run sloppy clearances compared to JE, Arias, and Ross pistons, and they have a high Si content which makes it easy to believe that they might be weaker. Plus they are heavier than Ross or JE pistons. Just get a set of JE and sand down the tops. IB sells the pistons with the tops already sanded.

I got some 84mm JE's in the mail yesterday. After looking them over, I am completely impressed. Very nice quality. I ran some Arias in an Accord motor a few years back and they were also very nice. I do not think you can go wrong as long as you choose from JE, weisco, Ross or Arias. They all are good.

is that what you read in a magazine??

i was quite sure that both JE and Wiseco use low silicon aluminum while the low compression SRP and Arias pistons use high silicon aluminum.

i plan on getting a set of 84mm wiseco for your information.

Atually I also heard the clearances for wiseco's are all over the place, and it was from a very reputable company which I will not name here, but you've all heard of them and they do the best work at what they do.

well from personal experience wiseco clearances are fine, and run significantly quieter than jes & arias.

What is it that is confusing? I think the common consesus (based on actual measurements and use....not what my brother's uncle's dog said ) is that Wiseco, JE, and Arias pistons are all good pistons.

Well, I have examined and used both JE/SRP and Weisco (ala Endyn) pistons. The Weisco pistons have more meat between the valve reliefs and top ring, which I equate with reliability under stress. The JE/SRP's absolutely require some touch up before use that needs to be done BEFORE weight balancing. If you want Weisco pistons, and refuse to deal with Endyn, throw me an e-mail. I will be glad to be of assistance.

my thoughts exactly. the thin areas that make up the valve reliefs in arias and jes are definate weak spots. i have an arias piston cracked right at that spot. i've seen some custom jes that don't have that sort of problem, but the majority of pistons i see from other manufactures neglect that area, and that leaves me to think that they don't spend a lot of time/thought designing the piston surface.

I ordered my pistons from Larry and got them in a few days.. Ive had nothing but good customer service from Endyn. Larry is always willing to help with any "too techy" questions that cannot be answered by most people. I fully agree with Sonny... The Wiseco piston is a great piece.. Ill be running them in my 5-600hp monster.
