Need info before going turbo b16
Hi Guys,
I am looking to turbo charge my b16a2 but I still have some questions concerning this project. I will be running stock internals.
My hp goal is 230 whp
-T3/T04B turbonetics 0.63 a/r
-OBD1 ecu tunned with hondata s300
-2.5 inch intercooler piping
-RC 440cc injectors
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-2.5 inch exhaust piping
Question:
1. Is the above turbo good for my hp goal ?
2. Do I need adjustable cam gears?
3. Do I need to upgrade my clutch?
4. Do I need to upgrade my MAP sensor?
thanks

No you don't need adjustable cam gears especially if you use any stock cam
Thicker gasket? Psh yeah right, stock oem gasket will work major wonders
I think that turbo is to big for your goal, I would look into the Garrett gt28rs for your goal. I believe your map sensor would have to be changed, you can get an omnipower map which is a plug and play sensor. Just note you have to swap them out when your getting tuned because the new map sensor reads differently than stock

I'm not sure which stage clutch you would need. Just need to look into the tq readings the pressure plate will handle. Maybe a stage 2 should work but I don't know what brand your looking into either. If you get that turbo I suggested yeah your going to have a lot of fun with it, you might want to bump that number to at least 280whp. That turbo spools quick and it's very enjoyable (from what I've been told and seen)

1. yes, it will be fine but the t04b compressor wheels generally need more boost to make the same power levels as t04e and newer, more aerodynamic compressor wheels.
2. No, not with stock cams
3. Yes, a stock clutch won't be able to handle that power level at all
4. If running more that 10psi you need a bigger map sensor. The oem is limited to 10-11psi. A 3bar is overkill for your build and you'll have resolution issues with your tuning maps due to the scalar divisions between the voltage points on the 3bar, there will be a big jump in PSI between the breakpoints on the maps... try to find a 2.5bar or something..

2. Do I need adjustable cam gears?: No.
3. Do I need to upgrade my clutch?: Yes.
4. Do I need to upgrade my MAP sensor?: Only if you push more than 11psi.

Re: Need info before going turbo b16
Thanks guys for the info.
I know a 270 whp will be much fun, but i dont wanna risk damaging the engine, so i prefare to stay around 230.
Well the gt28rs is around 1,200$ which is above my budget.
If the T3/T04B is considerd big so it will cause much lag ! and it will not spool fast?
I am looking to pay around 800$ for the turbo, any susgestions?
thanks

-RC 440cc injectors..... not a fan of rc... i'd rather get evo8/9 560cc pinktop injectors for $125-140ish.
-Walbro 255 fuel pump .... also look into relay kit which allows your pump to get full 12v power from battery.
-2.5 inch exhaust piping
Question:
1. Is the above turbo good for my hp goal ? it's fine
2. Do I need adjustable cam gears? no
3. Do I need to upgrade my clutch? i would get puck clutch
4. Do I need to upgrade my MAP sensor? for 230whp you shouldn't need more than 10psi.... i would get a omni or hondata 3bar anyways cause you'll quickly want to turn up the boost, it's unavoidable.
thanks

Re: Need info before going turbo b16
mehee... maybe it's just me.
cause there are better injectors out there for the money. Not to mention I've had more customers/friends with RC injector issues (550-770cc) than any other brand the past few years. Often times are operating at +90 duty cycle when issue come up.
PTE (p/h) only had 1 individual injector failure past 2 years (from 1st hand account of close friends/customers i keep in touch with) so they are still good in my books. But honestly reccomend 560cc injectors just because they are great bang for buck and share obd1 injector connector. lol
But OP, if you have RC already just give them a try. Good luck.

Re: Need info before going turbo b16
keep them under 90% duty cycle and they should be fine (cross fingers).
yes, RC were the "go-to" injectors company decades ago. Not sure when they fell off the map.
