bobistheoilguy.com

read up on that site

what you can afford is what really matters. personally i would never run a non syn in a turbo engine. at a bare minimum use valvoline syn power or penzoil platinum. if you don't mind spending money redline would be the way to go, that stuff can take some insane heat

i never run synthetic oil in my turbo cars. i always use castrol gtx. i do change it about every 2000 miles.

ive had i think 8 different turbo setups in the past 7 or so years. never had an oil related issue. i have got to have at least 70 thousand miles on those motors during that time.

I use the german castrol syntec. Still pretty cheap at autozone and has alot of zinc, gets good ratings on bobistheoilhguy. I was using Torco before but $120 for 5 qts is to much.

why?

you ever see what happens to conventional vs syn at 300deg?

syn also has better cold weather flow

nope, dont care to either. the hottest oil temp ive ever seen is about 220.

i have been doing well with what i have, so why mess with what is working. 20w-50 is some thick vw type crap. i primarily use 10w-40 but just filled up with some 5w-30 for the cold. im not actually driving the car now because of about 3 ft of snow on the ground, but i do turn it on and let it run maybe once a week, as well as have to move it around my driveway

well

if the hottest oil temp you have seen is 220 you don't drive hard, that does help with engine life

where you're missing out is cold weather starting, take a quart of 5-30 regular oil and a quart of 5-30 syn, put them outside when it's 20deg and then pour them after they sat a few hours. you'll see the same thing your engine does with cold starts
