trust me on that i've done a million too many sohc setups with over 400 or close to it and those stock sleeves will take a shitload and will not break... and not only for a few passes were talking kinda reliably too

most tuners dont like to push b series motors past 400whp on stock sleeves. but then again others will risk it. I dont think a stock sleeve d series making 400whp is reliable. but everyone has there own input.

its the tune that can destroy the sleeve.....
there has been 200whp d n b series sleeves that took a **** because of the tune

ive seen 160 liter b series allmotor take a **** cause of bad tune.. i have seen B turbos take a **** at 250... i have pushed kinda stock D series to over 350 and they have never took a ****... its all in the tune really... and i have pushed over 400 on stock sleeves b series with 0 issues... the timing is the one that kills those engines really.

i have to agree with the cheapness of the turbo-d. ive had n/a b-series motors and its fun to have all around power. i just sold my 215whp itr motor to build a turbo-d.
but to answer the question if your on a budget go turbo d, a b16 will add up if its done right with some bolt-ons.

Time bomb huh.. Well we made 421hp with slock sleeves and was dyno'ed on slicks which were spinning at 30psi. We figured a 40hp loss due to the slicks so really the engine is making about 450-460 on slock sleeves.. Tuned by BRAD BROOKS, conservative 11 degress timing and 30psi.
