Default my vafc hack setting and problems

i finally got the hack setup with the dsm 450's and here are my settings

this is on a sohc @9psi with built internals, non intercooled for now.

lo/hi and narrow/wide are all set to the same thing.

1-2.5k - 40%
3k-39%
4k- 37%
5k - 36%
6k- 34%
7k - 33%
7 + - 33%

seems to run pretty good. the problems i am having is
the car idles fine untill under load. then when say i pull up to a light
it dies, every time. i gotta feather the brake and the gas to keep it going.
also in and out of throttle is a bit jerky. if i bang the throttle no problems ,
it seems to be only under normal driving conditions. just a little jerk, nothing
bad, but it was not there before.

any ideas on what settings i can change to correct these issues.

thanks

platinum.

what is your fuel pressure set at?

might be too rich, thats why you are cutting out. My 1-2k is -48%

and the jerking is common with the vafc and dsm setup.

9psi...........non intecooled? ouch!

try these settings instead, it should run fine.

1-4 -40
4.5-5 -38
5.5-6 -36
6.5-7.5 -35

also don't forget to set a setting for 7.5 just in case you over rev.

You are running really rich. Try to set the idle around %50 and 7000 rpm no less than %40. I have mine set at 53% Idl-2k, decreasing to 44% at redline and I am still rich. It doesn;t hurt to try different settings. Just record what settings you have now, and go from there. Also make sure you have retarded your timing or you have a btm. You don't want to melt your motor befor you get to the dyno. I am also pushing 9 psi on a sohc currently and theses settings were verified on the dyno w/ a wb so, do as you wish.

and by the way, 9 psi w/out an intercooler is not a good idea. Maybe if you had, a really efficient turbo like a gt25, you might be able to get away with it for a while, be most likely you are not. If you have spent the money on built internals, spend the money on an IC and tuning!

i have a intercooler just a little starion. i need piping. and i was thinking of getting something better. only reason it is not there yet.

what is the best cheap intercooler.

i will drop it back down to say 7psi.. and mess with the settings.

Yes -53%, the starion will work fine for under 12 psi. The only downside to it is the pressure drop but it is not a prob if you stay below 12

have you ever adjusted your throttle cable? you should have less than 1/4inch deflection. also readjust your idle screw and turn your idle up slightly. i had the same problem until i leaned out my 1k setting to -47 and readjusted my idle setscrew. try turning on your ac and it will raise your idle and help keep you from stalling hopefully. definately mount that fmic, get it to a dyno, and reset your idle and you are good to go. i'm running 8psi now w/ no detonation.

check out my page for my settings:

oh yeah...and the stuttering usually occurs at low throttle % while cruising. when you get to like 5% throttle or less your ecu shuts down the injectors causing that quick little jerk. you'll get used to it and it was there using stock injectors and i/h/e setup it wasn't just as noticeable.

I had the same problem of the car shutting off when I came to a stop and put it in neutral. I was at -45% correction, I richened it up to -40% and it never stalls now. But it does seem harder to start.

I could be unobservant, but doesn't the afc only trim to 50%?

Also, I would say that you are possibly TOO LEAN at idle. To get a smooth idle I have to have the trim set at around -25% below 1000rpm. Worth a try if nothing else works.

my 440cc injectors for me..idles great at -25%...larger injectors take longer to open and will need more fuel to compensate at each pulse...soemtimes tho...but when i used dsm they were gay and tossed them...i never got them cleaned wither so maybe that was the problem...

1k -25%
2-4.5k -38%
5k-6k -37%
6k-up -36%

im planing on running over 12psi sometimes.
so looks like i need a different intercooler. ? what about the Spearco Intercooler. how good are those. and what psi are the efficient to.

i adjusted my settings to 1 -2 k 44% and adusted my throttle cable . seems to be better. sometimes it idles at like 1000 now. but normaly around 750 -800.

you've got the cable just a hair too tightly adjusted. loosen it just a hair and then there should be a little black plug with a tab on it. pull that out and there should be a little idle adjusment screw on the tb. adjust that a little until idle comes up. it shouldn't bob or hunt for idle if you do it that way.
