i like the advice in this thread...lot of hard workers on h-t
i just turned 30 two weeks ago, and i just finished building my first turbo integra. she just needs to be dynoed now. but of course i've finished school, have a good job, bought a house, etc.
i got into the game kinda late tho, i just bought my integra 3 years ago cuz i always wanted one, starting reading up on modding it, and got infatuated with boost
props to the young dudes that work hard to get their toys...when i was younger i was spending all my hard-earned money on records and sound/DJ equipment, lol.
i think the general idea tho is if you work hard, set your priorities, and handle your business, anything is possible...

well it took me 3yrs just to accumulate all the parts...bought the car outa HS for 9k....startin moddin it from day 1....went from a n/a lsvtec setup to just buildin the motor w/ rods & pistons and boostin the biatch w/ a hx35 and a/w setup...
ive probably got asbout 7-8k in parts alone but it def helps when you do all the labor, tuning, building etc...plus nothing is more gratifyin than the first time firing it up...dam i just fired my whip up for the summer today...and it still makes me quivver and get all giggly....
recomendations for people tryin to get a nice whip...
-spend you time buyin parts...look for the killer deals...and dont overspend you lose so much money when you change your mind or get in a pinch...re-sale is always a loss in most cases...so buy wisely
- research...research...research...my turbo was $215 used compared to many $600+ turbos...and it performs just as well if not better than any other boosted car ive ridden in...
- be original...everyone can slap on a kit and be boosted...but its the little things that make the car special...
-build it yourself...if you dont have hte knowledge..or know how..you really shouldnt have a boosted car imho...so many things can go wrong and w/o the knowledge youd be callin lots of tow trucks and spending thousands at shops...not that i dont like shops but ive seen people spend well over 10k for a **** poor runnin whip...and they dont have any reason to why it runs horrible...
so be smart, pan ahead...and dont buy parts w/ a CC....used a debit card etc...dont spend the $ unless you got it...because when you all tapped out and you mis-shift racing etc...guess what now you **** outa luck w/ no money or credit...ive seen it happen and it sucks...so just be smart and level headed and youll be alright...
btw im a college student workin summers and p/t everynow and then...funded a lot of my project doing labor for others..numerous tranny swaps, clutches, engine rebuilds...just work hard and youll achieve everything you want in life

SIMPLY PUT...BOOST is AdIcTiVe!
I started racing approx 3-4 yrs ago. I had a 98 Honda Prelude that was heavy as hell and just threw the bottle on it. That was fun for a couple months. Sold it and bought a "family" car...lol. Then I bought a 99 CBR 600f4i for cheap and then I traded it straight up for the MONEY PIT I still own to this day. A 1994 Honda Civic EG Hatch. It came with a turbo d16 and from there I have had several different engines in this thing...lol! 1st I swapped a b18b1 and slapped a turbo on it. 13's werent fast enough. So I threw in a b18c1 with a LoveFab SST mani/t3/t67 H.O. and made 395whp stock internals. Ran 11.80's @ 120ish mph on 22" slicks...thats wasnt good enough. So I bought a bare GSR block and bored it .020 over and threw in some Oliver Titanium rods/Weisco 9:1 slugs and put down approx 475-500whp and ran low 11's. Was def capable of 10's but it was my daily driver so I didnt crank the boost on up. Best run on that setup was 11.36 @ 130mph. Well I ended up blowing that setup when Idecided one day to crank the boost on up to 26-28psi.
Now I have had the car down approx 1 year and it is still in works. Pushing for 800whp with full LS/VTEC-GT42r build. Should be sitting somewhere around 800-850whp when it is runing and Cortney Green gets her tuned. Has a 50 wet-shot Nitrous so thats why I say 850ish..but then I will be happy to break 800whp.
All I have now are pics of the engine on the stand...lol. Can't wait to get it installed!!!
Point being...as long as you have a job and put your mind to what you want...you CAN make it happen. I have been woorking on this build for a year now and I still have a few more months probably. But it will fire up and when that day comes its all worth it. Even if your in the military(been there done that), school, or working 3 damn jobs.
P.S. 9 sec timeslips arent cheap...

I took a lot of the money i got from graduating high school and saved it. Started working part time during college...saved it. Started to buy used parts for really cheap and sell them for a slight profit...since school was boring anyway. I did installs and reg. maintenance on students cars... started TIG welding and doing fab work for people. Then I started fabricating parts my sophmore year. By my junior year I had accumulated enough money and parts to get my car boosted. I drove it for a year and then had to park it and walk since I couldn't afford having a 400whp car...but I've got it back now...and the mad rush to spend money on it has begun again. It just means that I have to sacrifice other things in life so that I can have my car...IE eating out, spending money at strip clubs, drinking beer, anything that isn't necessary...dont do it.
If you are VERY frugal (sp?) you can slowly piece your stuff together...but it all comes down to how bad you want it. Budget yourself, and analyze what you're spending your money on...once youdo that you'll see that your goal is not too far away.
take your budget for your car...and your timeline...and double them.
good luck and STAY FOCUSED ON YOUR GOALS

I am 22 years old finished school parents never helped pay a dime for any of my cars or co signed to help build credit. This is what i just got all by myself and im glad they made me do it that way.
I'm 25 and work for a major railroad. I never had a badass car when I was going to school.
When I got my real job, I bought my 99 Si and my 97 CBR 600.
This is where I'm at now...
Built B16...one fab/sc61/supertech/monster

Honestly, as many other people have said plenty of times before... it takes patience.
I slapped together a cheap turbo kit, and wasn't happy with the power.
Most of the people with decently fast cars either live at home and have no expenses or have done the time, spent the many years in the work force to get to where they are. Be smart with your money.
I'm 22, married, didn't go to college. Granted, I make pretty decent money, and my wife makes really, really good money, hah.
I spent about $4,000 fixing problems with the first turbo kit I put on the car because I was cheap. My wife finally got fed up with things breaking and me being cheap, and we finally decided to build my car up right, with no expense spared, and without going into debt.
So it took me about 4-5 months to build my car to where it is now without the wife letting me put anything on a credit card. It's a very nice thing knowing you did it all on your own. Last I checked, I had over $15,000 into the car.
It's a long road to go down, and one you really need to ask yourself if it's worth taking. There will be a lot of things breaking no matter how well you build the car, and you will still have to pay money to keep up the car and maintain it. As others have said... a MONEY PIT.
In hindsight, if I had to go back, I would've built a C5 Z06 over my Integra, but in the end, I think it was worth it still.
First LS to make 600+ whp, crazy fast street car, and a big smile on my face knowing I'll be able to tear up most any car I pull up beside on the road.
I still have another ~$2,000 to go to get axles, slicks and a Quaife to run it at the track, but I'm happy with my car for the time being and not being in debt.
Do it once, do it right.
