We are NOT mercenaries!!! I dont know why people tend to think that. But that is not what we are. We mostly provide Persional Secuitry for Diplomats. I on the other hand do Intelligence/Operations for the Department of State... We also do other things in the states as well like train Police Swat teams and Military

Im in the Air Force Curently deployed in Quatar Saudi Arabia if you see one of my last topics you would see what serving your country and being in place most people wouldnt want to go would do to your budget.

Part-time Student + 2 part-time jobs. I sold my b-series hatch for a good deal, bought my old sedan, put some money & lots of time into it. For the same amount of cash, it ended up having more luxury stuff, much better suspension/radio, a bit less power, along with the basic parts for boost.

After 6 weeks of BUSTING MY *** welding/fabbing/etc & roughly meeting my projected budget ($4k car & parts/$5k EVERYTHING), I have a very peppy quasi-sleeper. I have less into this car than I did my stock-b18b civic, and its faster on partial-throttle boost than that b18 was any day.

And for the record, thats not cutting any corners when coming to workmanship. Everything works perfect - t3/t04B@10psi on a stock d16z6.

Firefighting, work 10 days a month so I can work on my car the other 20 days.

I say build your motor and go to school at the same time, that way you finish both around the same time. Got a LS-T in the making and trying to get in a Paramedic class as well.

This thread literally inspired me to do well for the next few years at the University and then come out and begin accomplishing my goals. I pay for college (no loans , nor do I have a damn job (yet).) However, since I've been saving up since I was in elementary school, I have some source of backup funds. Although I have roughly quite a bit of money for my age, what people in college and such should learn is that there are other ways of making money other than jobs.

I'm not sure why most kids don't do this, but why don't you specialize in one thing, such as computers and then begin intensive research on prices and which ones consumers want. Go to a local forum or swap meet and begin scouting out for these parts. As soon as you find it, give the seller a LOW-BALL offer (you would be surprised how low they will go), and then relist the item up on eBay. Hell, in about 4 hours worth of total time a few days ago (listing the item and driving to go pick it up), I made roughly 700$... .

If you have a job now that just pays for your basics. Then the best bet is to do side work/2nd job. Because all of the income from that is EXTRA money that can go towards your car.

I'm 19, a 2nd year Psych student at a University, i have a girlfriend/ moneypit, and i have a boosted 99 GSR.....the key is working your *** off all the time and get a job that pays a lot....I work about 50-60hrs per week for a road construction company in the summers. It pays for school and for my toys. In the school year, i'm a psychiatric technician at a Psychiatric Hospital.

Construction + Psych tech + working hard = fast car and money for the gf

I'm 20 and I'm going to school for engineering. The main thing I try to do is do well in school. Doing well in school can get you a good summer internship like I have right now. This will in turn get you money summer after summer if you return to that job and when schools over they will most likely offer you a job. When I'm working though I always keep in the back of my head what I'm doing this for....boost, boost, boost. Eventually it will come for you. Also I save and don't spend money on stupid stuff. It also helps having parents like I do that help me out with school bills and insurance and that type of thing....without them I wouldnt have the cars that I have. Another thing you can try doing is look for good deals from locals or here on honda tech. For instance when I was doing my d series motor build I need a new crank and block since my old one I fricked up when I blew it up. I bought a d16z6 off of a friend for $150 bucks. I used the crank and block. I then continued to sell the head which was perfectly good for $100, the distributor for $50, the wiring harness for $50, the intake manifold for $25 and so on. So you can see if you get a good deal on something jump on and part it out or something to make a few extra dollars to support your habit while in school. Hope some of this helps

I know you arnt trying to offend anyone, Its just that it doesnt look good when people call us merc's. We are affiliated with the government and we help the military out. I work hand in hand with Army, Air Force and Marines every day. the true Definition of a Mercenarie is:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by encyclopedia &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">1. A mercenary is a soldier who fights, or engages in warfare primarily for money, usually with little regard for ideological, national or political considerations. However, when the term is used to refer to a soldier in a regular national army, it is usually considered an insult, epithet or pejorative.

2. A professional soldier hired for service in a foreign army. [Middle English mercenarie, a mercenary, from Old French mercenaire, from Latin mercenarius, from merces, wages, price.]</TD></TR></TABLE>

hope that sheads some light on it

I heard that. I'm a tech for honda now and have worked at Chey and Mercedes Benz. I have about $30k in tools, so I know what kind of debt they will put you in. I've spent more money repairing crap that fails and buying tools, so my car goes up and down as far as mods. It never seems to get finished before something else goes wrong. The most recent problem was that it dropped a valve about 4 days before having all the parts to boost it on. The only thing that made me feel better was that it was do to the improperly assembled head from the machine shop. That was the only part of the motor that I didn't assemble myself.

Everything cost money and will take time to build, especially when you do it right. But just make goals and work to get there, after you get out of school. That's when the real money will start to show up. Don't worry about your car right now. Just do good in school and focus on that, the money will come later.

Yeah bro, you're still young. A lot of people here have achieved a lot for being young and that's good for them, but you have a lot of time ahead of you. I'm 26 and 6 years ago for me, I had totally different goals and no clue with what I wanted. Since then I've done more than I would've ever thought I'd be doing. Believe me, their is no need to try to rush things.

5 years ago I was almost killed by someone that wasn't watching the road and ran a stop sign at 35mph+ and hit me square in the door of my car. I've since changed my views on life as to what's important to me. Part of that was do to the fact that since I was in a coma for 10 days from that reck, I relised how easliy you can be killed.

I do everything myself, not just to minimize the costs and the number of mistakes of others, but to maximize the learning process. I see this whole thing as a competition, and to me, money isn't really what it's about, or what it should be about. Do I respect the engineering knowledge of a person who can beat me in a factory car that sells for $100+k? No way. I think it's really about self expression and putting your brain, your engineering, not just your money, against someone else. I totally respect people who fork out their hard earned cash for their setups, but you just don't learn as much as if you built and designed eveything yourself, so that's what I always tell people, do as much of it yourself as you can. Also I think tools can be a better investment than parts. For instance, you can buy a decent welder for less than a decent quality new manifold and downpipe.

p.s. stay Away from credit cards, those things are evil!
