Ooo... didnt know that.
im hoping this doesnt happen..im gonna buy a .20 over set of weisco's to put in if these go. down time is gonna suck...back to the shop i go
you know, now that ive searched a bit more... i found threads of ppl cracking cp's and je's right by the intake valve relief.. they're all saying its from oil deposits causing hot spots on the pistons..and that the oil got there due to machine sop error
piston to deck clearance i believe it was...
this just might be the situation with all the locals youve seen blow up...?

Try calling Medford Speed 609-801-0808 Ask for Jerry. He did my H22. Honed, line honed, mircopolished crank, checked all clearances (in bearings), and did my valvetrain (oversized valves), reasonably priced and won't bullshit you, tells you exactly what you need or should do.

Very true.. I will just say that FJT, who I got my pistons through could not get them.

wow, nice. thats near where i go to school, good ****. im surprised i didnt find that shop there before. is it just a machine shop? or are they a performance parts store too..
on rt38 theres a shop called NAHR performance on main st next door to santos pizza. they just opened. i was gonna work for them, but the guy wanted to pay me 6 an hour to do swaps w/ my own tools (F*CK THAT!!) none of the guys there no what the hell there doing except maybe this kid CJ. the guy that opened the shop drives an ep3 and had me put his coilovers on sayin he wanted to see how i work when it was he couldnt do it...
then i swapped a tranny in my fourdour just to show him how i work.. did it MYSELF in 3hrs! and he said i need to hurry up?! and this was just to see if im allowed to work there... but when he said yea for 6/hour... i was OUT!
all theyre really about is vynals and decals... they're good with that. they should take the 'we do major engine modifications and tunning' down from their sign out front..

Do you go to BCC? They are primarily a machine shop, but they can get the parts for you if needbe, they do alot of business by word of mouth as opposed to advertising. They specialize in V8's mainly, but have done imports as well. I have seen some pretty rowdy motors come from his shop (v8's of course). I had some issues with my motor, and he found them and fixed them for me. Never heard of NAHR. There aren't many places around us that do import stuff, unless you want to travel to N. Jersey or PA/DE. I would highly recomend Medford Speed, they are real nice, laid back, and relatively cheap.

sure the jeff evans write up is great. but you're payin for his expertise and if it ***** up you can bring it back and say hey . fix this **** .
the write up doesnt list machining costs
polishing crank =- 120-140$
bore and hone 100-170$
theres most of your money right there.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Im sorry but $120-140 for a crank polish is down right piracy!

its in burlington city in burlington county Right off rt130 on high st. Its really not worth the drive if your all the way up there. its just a local parts shop that happens to have a machine shop run by one guy in the back. They're not a special performance shop or anything. They normally just get work from dealerships in the area. The guys probably gonna look at me like im crazy when i tell him i need the block notched..</TD></TR></TABLE>
Notching has been going on since the invention of the stroker. Any machinist no matter what his ability has heard of notching.

I really ought to find Dave William's writeup on fitting a 351C crankshaft to a 302W, before the advent of inexpensive SBF stroker kits. Notching doesn't even begin to describe it... and lots of ppl were doing that back 20 years ago.

I agree with you totally ive assembled a couple of engines at my school and through classes this past year and your right you really do almost have all the tools that you need. (Basic ones that i recall using were a Micrometer, dial indicator "for checking crank not neccs needed" Ridge reamer "high milagage car so there was alot of build up in there on top of the pistons" and a set of feeler guages and the other clearence is done with that piece of paper. Then theres the ring seater for the pistons. You deff have cought my attention cause i just spent 300 dollars recently, i did a rebuild over winter break and school was closed so i couldnt use there tools. I'm thinking now i should of invested that money into my own set of specialty tools. So all in all its just basic bullshit that we all can do it just takes attempting it and trusting yourself that your goign to do it right. I was really surprised my first time to see how easy it was to assemble a engine.

IF your serious about what is hot tank thats when they dip your block in degreaser/other cleaners and heated water to clean your block off.

why not just assemble it yourself. buying the tools and stuff will still come out to less then if u paid him to do it. obviously the bore and hone you couldnt do, but the rest, why not
