LSD??? How much whp?
Hey guys,
Want to know who is running without an LSD at some higher horsepower numbers?
I'm building a budget turbo setup, and $700 on an mfactory lsd is just more than I can stomach..
trying to get a feel for how much whp can be put down without lsd in a reasonable fashion... I realize you can take other precautions (mounts, boost by gear, tire selection, etc.), but I want to get your personal experiences..
edit: running a z6 tranny..

I'm running an open differential and at the power numbers listed in the sig. I'm planning to retune this summer for another 50-60whp and will keep the open diff. I wish i had money for an LSD (Quaife or nothin IMO)
You can put down as much horsepower and possible, but just keep in mind you will not get the most out of that power with it being transmitted to just one of the wheels. I am assuming you cannot stomach spending $700+ on a LSD setup because in your mind you are not seeing an increase in power from this. What kind of driving will you be doing? Street, drag or road racing?
I'd say an LSD benefits a street car, no matter the horsepower level... especially front wheel drive. Add boost, and it becomes even more important since you actually have some torque.
For a straight drag car, might as well weld the diff or get a spool?

The other thing I was thinking was trying to pick up an oem unit if I could find one, but apparently they are pretty rare..
I know some came from some d15b's, and some ZC's, but that's about all I know... That might provide a more cost effective way to get an lsd...

ever since i got my b16 swap that came with a factory lsd b16 tranny i couldn't go back, i loved having lsd! and don't go with a $700 lsd then i picked up a gsr trans with itr lsd installed for $480... cant complain
ITR LSD won't work in a D series.
The MFactory isn't $700, and the runout is better than Quaife. It is also forged whereas the Quaife is only billet.
I had MFactory produce the D series LSD so if you have any questions about it just ask.

I've got one that's going to be going into my project... it is TOP QUALITY.
Being a FWD turbo car it'll probably still spin the tires like crazy with or without an LSD.
I'm hoping next years autox season I'll be able to find out.
OP:
I understand where you are coming from to cough up the money for one piece, but that diff. will probably last as long as the car itself, more than likely longer than the turbo items you purchased and it will benefit your DD habits. I'd say save up for it or wait until someone is selling their used LSD.

my friend was putting down 595/430 in his EG and was cutting consistent 1.65-1.60 60's open stock diff and with a Quaife...... he told me the Quaife just made the car easier to drive on and off the street. I have never personally driven a B-Series car that didnt have a diff in it (wouldnt want to anyway) so I cant give you my personal experience.
OBX LSD if you dont have alot of money to play with and they handle abuse. just when you get the unit do the rebuild. I believe there is a wirte up somewhere on here about what to do with the lsd to make it right. its all very simple stuff and not costly. Ive been running obx lsd not fixed for a few years and it handles the abuse. once in a while i get one legger but thats from not fixing it when i got it. what can i say i was lazy LOL
I've been running a Wavetrac LSD for a while now on my daily driver. I'm putting 171wtq and it really helps traction launch. I'll hit the canyons occasionally and car benefits having one for ultimate power transfer on twists.
As far as how much tq/hp gains? It won't make a difference IMO, all the LSD is doing is help get whatever power you make to both wheels for better traction/grip.
