From what I've heard, the difference in hp ratings between the B18a and the B18b comes from the head. Apparently it's a little less restrictive, but I can't remember for sure what it was.

It all depends on what you are using the car for, track only or daily driving. The cams will give you a really rough idle so these are things to consider also.

Damn I need to go to the junkyard more often. I don't think aggressive cams would hurt my daily commute too much. I drive 1.5mi to work.

The turbo cams are like 190/190 @ .050 for duration, how is that going to give you a rough idle? It's higher than stock by 3 degrees. I've driven a turbo car with crower 404's before and the idle was fine.

Great info guys!

Also...does anyone have experience upgrading the Throttle Body...to like a GSR or H22?

Since the head doesnt flow much as it is, to me it wouldnt seem like a sensible upgrade, unless you got a great price on one...but i dunno really.

I've got a JG throttle body on mine, portmatched to a stock LS mani, and it flows well...

Here is a friends car I dyno tuned last week and I helped build. It was hitting 325 conistantly on the street simulations but the power pulls tend to read a bit lower and it was getting pretty heat soaked. It actually hit 321 on this pull at 7200 as well if you look at the sheets below. Remember this in on a Mustang dyno too, on a dynojet it would be about 15% higher. The setup was a b18a with srp pistons and eagle rods, t3/to4e 57trim .63/.60, precision 780cc injectors, crane turbo cam, crane springs and retainers, gm 3bar map sensor, and UBERDATA 1.66. The lower rpms were a bit rich as you can see below but I cleaned them up on the street right after we dynoed (I changed him from Uberdata 1.65 repack 3 to 1.66 at the dyno so the partial throttle was a bit off).

I like those numbers. I want to achieve 300whp but also keep tq as close to hp as possible.

Yeah I see a lot of gsr turbo'd setups but they have low tq. Last one I saw had 300whp and 200wtq. It wasn't very impressive.

What about the ls motor allows it to produce so much more torque than say a gsr?

94-01 B18b is rated by honda at 142hp... but you know how worthless manufacturer quoted figures are. It's probably just because of the less restrictive airfilter on the DC. Better to go with your figures.

Alright guys this is my future setup let me know how you think it'll do:

96 B18B
HKS GT-SS turbo internal w/g
Hks cast manifold
Greddy front mount i/c
walbro fuel pump
RC 550's
Hondata S200
Hks SSQ bov

The turbo is compared to a Garrett GT28, but a little bigger is all ball bearings and its brand spanking new! I think this turbo mated with the already torquey LS motor, this thing will have mad torque! anyone else with a similar setup??

just subscribing. It's so awesome to see Turbo LS's pushing close to or more then 300WHP on stock internals. Those have got to be some fun cars. I'll post here in 2 months when I'm done. Here's the setup:

Stock as a rock block and head
t3/t04e 57 trim .60/.63
speedpartsrus.com 30x6.5x2.75 IC
neukin.com custom equal length manifold
tial 38mm
turbo XS type H RFL BOV
3" DP
catless 3" exhaust (my dad works with the EPA...he loves me for it )
DSM 450cc
Walbro 255 HP
2.5-2.25" IC piping (still don't know)
Sportin Uberdata!

Hopin' to make 280WHP...then save money get internals/injectors and push 400WHP and call it a mother f*ckin GOOD DAY!

I'm using a CM Stage 3. Seems to be holding great. I'm running 8psi.
