Re: LS girdle or not to girlde ? (nihad)
no he means a girdle, Im doing a Ls build I went ahead and bought the KMS one along with the arp gsr mains and oil pan and pick up ect.... I figured why not the Ls is the only B-series to not get one. I think it will help reinforce the block. And help with the higher rev's. Most aftermarket girdles your going to need a line bore though.

B20, B16a, B17a, no girdle. i guess you meant the ls is the only 1.8L that has no girdle

I dunno My buddy bought a stock b18b and it came with a girdle stock and in my haynes it list the b18b as having the same one as a gsr. I have a b18b1 and it doesn't have one so ya

yeah i believe its because honda never intended the motor to need one because of the factory redline and its purpose. I think rod/stroke ratio and durability have alot to do with it. The d16's have girdles on the bottom end it doesnt rev past 7200 i believe.

Re: (Hondatron)
people make crazy power w/ and w/o them.
People make crazy power on stock blocks, but that doesnt mean its the strongest.
Id say with a stock crank and under 500WHP, u wouldnt need one

Re: (93supercoupe)
Stock gsr/Itr are almost same r/s ratio as the ls, b20 but higher rpm, if you plan on reving an b18a/b or b20 to gsr/Itr levels better get one .........Honda did.

and there are people without a girdle revving their lsvtec's to gsr/itr levels with no problems

its all about a peice of mind knowing you have the extra added strength in the bottom regardless if you are make 160hp or 800whp. so you should do it if you can make it happen.
I have one in my LS/vtec but I dont know my hp
but I run my car hard and long on the autobahn at high high boost in 5th at high rpms

Re: (rudebwoy)
Considering how you have to be very careful line-boring your block (steel on one side, aluminum on the other), I don't think its worth it. You can always toss an aftermarket girdle w/o checking for distortions, but thats like making 500whp with an FMU - its not a great idea. If you really are concerned about rigidity, you'd toss the bland LS block and get the GSR which has much more bracing cast into it externally.
