Default low vac reading

My boost gauge is reading around 12 - 14 hg during idle. I read that it should be closer to 20 - 22 hg. What could be causing this?

vaccuum leak. check throttle body gaskets.check hoses, cam timing, throttle position,

..or pour soapy water over all the hoses and such then try to boost. see where the bubbles are coming from.

yah. 20-22 is normal for idle

How's your idle? You car shouldn't IDLE below 17 hg.
Maybe your line to the gauge is crimped.

when a vehicle has lower then spec vacuum, and the guage stays steady, this is normally from normal internal engine wear, such as worn rings, worn valve guides etc... If the guage fluxiates, it could be from a vacuum leak, bad valvespring.....

It will depend on how tight the motor was built or how rich or lean the car is. if the car is super rich it will not pull vacuum. my car only pulled 15in of vc because i ran 1000cc injectors on hondata and my air fuel at idle was 10:1.

it also highly depends on the motor's compression 8.5:1 would be around 14-16inhg.

How about this.
Where is your gauge t'd off of? how many other things are t'd off of it?
If you have to many things t'd off it will have a low vac. reading...
Try runing it with nothing t'd off it

My gauge is tee'd off of my fpr. That's the only thing tee'd off of that. My bov is tee'd off of my brake booster, and the wastegate goes to the compressor side of my turbo. I tried distributing the tee's evenly.

Would an exhuast leak cause a low vac reading? Because I think that I'm getting some of those....I'm retightening everything down, so hopefully that solves the problem.

Sup Whooopass,

Well I was boosting yesturday for the first time!!!! The car was running pretty good. I got rid of the idle problem. But then the gasket I had from my mani to turbo, blew out. So I had to take everything off again. And then today when I went to put everything back, the oil feed fitting into the turbo, somehow got stripped. So now I need to find that fitting somewhere locally, or order one. If I can't find one locally, I'll just teflon tape it. So my car is out of service again. I will keep you posted on my progress....I'm getting close to finishing it though.

Thanks for your help

Could my low vac reading have to do with my altitude? Because I'm getting a low MAP sensor reading as well. Could all this be related? I'm at about 4,500 elevation.
