(laskey)99 civic ls/vtec s 300 randomly won't start
I have a 99 civic si with an ls/vtec built and boosted. My car had ran fine for along time drove it and parked it and the next day it didn't start. It cranks over and the t-belt is fine. The car was low on fuel when I parked it but I put over 3gal. In it. Keep in mind this is in ND winter so it's been really cold outside. The car has a push button starter in it sometimes it works sometimes it dont, but that never caused it to not start also the car has a old viper alarm system in it.
Description- the motor was built and assembled by laskey racing in california. B18b1 bottom with Benson sleeves bored to 2.0 cp-9:1 comp piston eagle rods acl bearings arp hardware
The head - b16a2 original head to the car that I sent out to laskey, arp headstuds stock gsr cams mahnley vavlves, springs, retainers 3°valve job port/polished etc. Skunk intake rc- 750cc inj. Aem fpr, rail, fuel filter, msd dis. Cap rotor plugs wires W/external blastor box 255 - fuel pump' s300ecu
Drag gen2- turbo kit
Notice problems when trying to start- -cranks but doesn't start
-almost sounds like there's no comp.
-spark plugs holes were filled with oil
-checked coolant radiator was empty/but it never over heated on me and there's no puddle under neath the car
-smell fuel in my oil (smells old)
-Investigated and checked-
-Pulled all spark plugs cleaned them and then plugged into wires and grounded them out so I have spark
-when checking spark I could feel good amount of air pushed out of the spark plug holes (is further comp. Test needed)?
-main rely clicks both times like it should
-fuel pump primes nice
-fpr gauge goes up to 55 psi
- check engine light comes and goes away like it should
-s 300 works good no codes
-my innovative wide band reads 13 to 16-17 when I crank it over
- fuses are good
-timing marks on cam gears match, tension feels good
I Never had a problem like this before. The car is usually parked in a heated garage for winter. I just don't get what it could be I drove the car plenty of time beforehand and parked it 12 hrs later no start. Laskey racing I'd highly reputable in the Honda world so I'm sure his quality of engine assembly was right, there's only maybe 2k miles on everything.
Please help with suggestions or ideas

Seems like you did the most without usuing any tools so now you gotta grab a multi meter and comp tester
5 things to start a motor
Air
FueL
Compression
Timing
Spark
You have spark
You have timing
Compression needs to be verified with a gauge, usually if you are trying to turn it over with a ratchet and all the spark plugs are in and its a pain in the *** to turn over comp should be ok
Air im sure you have but double check for a clogged filter
Fuel needs to be verified
Also a low battery could be the problem. If It doesnt have enough cca then that can be the problem
Do a load test on the batt during cranking

Re: (laskey)99 civic ls/vtec s 300 randomly won't start
I charged the battery all night the next day after discovering this. And when I was trying to start it I'd put the battery charger on high start. The battery never had an issue before but it's never sat out in the cold of weather before?

Could it have anything to do with your cranking tables and the temperatures. I know when I got my setup going once winter hit I had to make changes to the cranking fuel tables. Check those as well as the coolant and IAT tables for the temps you are seeing.

Could I have a clogged or frozen fuel filter due to the car being parked on a slant with the fuel light on? Fuel filter is old but I baby the car and it only has 17k original miles on the chassis so I wouldn't suspect an Aem fuel filter to go out with it not bein driven that much. And I don't think the air filter is clogged but there was snow in the engine bay

Seriously, look at those temperature compensation tables. My car would just crank and crank but not start until I started messing with them. Try taking fuel out and if that doesn't help try increasing fuel.
Of course you can ignore this if the car has started no problem in these conditions before but since you said the car is usually parked in a heated garage...

Today it was 30 above but felt like 15 but when this first started it was down like -21 and felt like -35 with wind shield and stayed that way for about a week
And I am going to bring my laptop out tommorow and check the fuel compensations

And if it helps my wide band would read 12.35 to 13.25 under boost in temps. 40 and above and when it started getting colder it would run really rich like 9.9 to 12.25 idling and under boost
My wide band is wired into my hondata F.Y.I

The values in Hondata are based off the stock injectors and since you now have larger injectors I'm betting you need to decrease the values for the colder temps. Don't make huge changes instead slowly decrease them.

Yes they work there brand new
1158 I'm gnna somehow link or post my s 300 tune up so you can open it and take a look and maybe see if you catch something in there

I can PM you my email and you can send me the calibration if you want. I won't get a chance to look at it until the morning (roughly 5 AM EST). I'm east coast so it should be b4 you need it. I'm not a tuner in any sense of the word, I dick around with my own car and that's it. Just want to get that out there. That said I'll happily take a look at the cal and see if I can give you some ideas.
