Default Just cracked a sleeve. Recommendations for sleeving?

Well it's 2015.. I have been around for a long time, but no experience with sleeving. I've done my share of searching.. and a lot of the threads i'm seeing are a bit dated.

I cracked a sleeve last week on the dyno in my piston/rod b18c1. Are all the older companies that sleeve still being used? Are there any that are more popular than others? Are they all pretty much the same in comparison? Price isn't really an issue, just want it done right (but please don't be afraid to share price as it will be taken into consideration). Looking to send my block out this week and would like those who have sleeved their blocks to give input/recommendations. Really only looking for a 4-500whp street car. Not sure if there are a particular recommended sleeve for that power level since i'm not building an all out race application. Turnaround time would be helpful too for comparison purposes. Thanks in advance

The motor is not torn down yet, but will post some as soon as it is. 9:1 JE pistons/Scat rods, stock gsr head/cams. Last pull the car made 370/250 on about 21psi out of an older school BW t04e 57 trim. Just took the motor apart for a rering not long before the dyno and also had the turbo rebuilt. Motor showed lots of blowby out of the VC breather on the dyno, so it was probably on it's last leg. It also had about 40k boosted miles on it. I never got it compression tested before the dyno so I'm not sure on those numbers.

What kind of fuel? When you put new rings did you hone? What was the ptw gap? Blow by means oil in the combustion chamber which leads to detonation

93 octane. Yes the block was honed, not sure on the ptw gap. My friend helped me since i've never done rings. We just left the ptw the same as what it was when we took them out, which matched what the JE instructions recommended for forced induction applications.

Impossible

When you hone the original ptw gap gets bigger depending on how much you hone

Youre thinking of the ring gaps

Well thats settled, benson makes good sleeves too check them out.

Benson is a PITA and does what he wants because he "knows better than you". Go with Golden Eagle or Darton (themselves). GE will be quite a bit cheaper than Darton, but you can't beat the single sleeve replacement of Darton MIDs.

Some of the most respectable people on TI pushing pretty nuts hp number on their builds all personally recommend benson for his superior craftsmanship, as every block is sleeved by him personally.

With that said, the turn around time is ridiculously long and I'm pretty sure he's more expensive than darton or GE

I have a Benson block. The previous owner had issues with the sleeves sinking right after he got it, but sent it back and it was corrected and been running it since (2008) with no issues.

It will depend on how bad the crack is also some places won't sleeve it. I went with benson on mines. Sleeves are still good on the third build.

GE and Darton are good options. A Dart block would also be a good option.

RS machines is also a decent sleeved option and is used on most of my friends cars. No issues running up to 900hp can vouch for.

And price is decent as well

got my rs sleeved block, supertech piston and skunk2 alpha rod setup for 1800

I have a Benson sleeved block. Turn around time was 6 months or so. He was cheaper than any other full sleeve option and I was sold on the open deck design. We talked over the phone multiple times before any work was done. He admittedly had never heard of what I was trying to do. I specifically specified my PTW clearance which he disagreed, but agreed to do what I wanted since it was my motor. Engine came back to what he wanted. A friend sent a block of his own, same exact **** happened. Definitely never again. Oh and he talks too much.

I can vouch for Opel Engineering in chicagoland. Any brand sleeves you want, any specs you want. Ted is a really knowledgable and experienced guy. You can ship to them.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. I've decided to go with Darton mids as I'm getting a killer deal through a friend I can't pass up

You won't be disappointed, (properly installed) Darton MIDs are where it's at aside from DART blocks.

This, Aaron at TSR has everything setup and running. The blocks are looking great. Joe was also showing me the blocks he machined for aluminum rods.
