Default Intercooler sizing question, what is too big?

I'm changing some things with my build this spring (adding cam, intake, exchangin eBay turbo for Garrett and sheepey ramhorn) and will be shooting for 375-400whp with my d16. Made 280 at 18psi last spring but that was on the eBay turbo and stock head/intake.

I'm trying to find a better, name brand Intercooler and I'm stuck as to the proper size I should go with. I was considering a precision 350hp rated or a 600hp rated one. Obviously the 350hp is going to be a tad small. Why is that? Just not enough air flow I'm assuming? And can having the 600hp one hurt my overall power band? Car is a 92 civic hatch. Don't want to cut up my bumper, already trimmed the grill opening out for my current intercooler, but don't want to cut into the actual bumper.

Any other suggestions for an intercooler that will support 400whp properly and within the same price range, without sacrificing power/powerband? Garrett etc.

You really want an intercooler that's rated a good 100HP above your goal. I had to trim the hell out of my bumper to fit a Treadstone TR11 intercooler (550hp rating). You may want to look into Treadstone, their intercoolers offer a lot of bang for the buck.

I'd get the Precision 600hp for your goals. Chances are you're gonna want more power later and that will support it.

No such thing as too big

http://www.go-autoworks-store.com/gor.html

IMO this one gives you a lot of bag for your buck
The fin design is offset so it is more efficient than some of the other ones on the market with out a huge price

It will indeed support 500+ whp with good iat

I'm no expert but I'd look into this one it's what in using now I modified one side to run it back door, it's a good cooler but now I need a bigger one

You could also look into the vibrant ones they are pretty affordable

I learned a lot from this

Then I realized that there is a huge difference between different brands and designs

The general sum up of that thread though is that taller is Usually better, but that also depends on the type of fins that are inside of said intercooler.

yup The Shodan PMd me that link. read it front to back. didnt know there were that many things that could change how well an intercooler worked. im pretty much set on getting the go autoworks 600hp intercooler. it will be more than enough regarding room for going up in HP, which i dont plan on doing unless i go e85 but thats something i dont feel like dealing with.
