Intercooler question
I think my intercooler is going to be too small with my plans of 16psi. 28x7x2.5", with mods in sig.
So I have an intercooler in mind. 28x11.75x5.5".
My only concern, can I fit a fat 5.5" intercooler behind my eg civics bumper, or should I FORGET ABOUT IT? I've chopped it up quite a bit already, and dont mind chopping some more.
Thanks

Re: Intercooler question
Its not pressure that matters... But power goals.
An intercooler with a core that thick is overkill unless you're making like 700hp.. Your current intercooler is fine

I still think its going to be heat soaked. Power goal is 300-330whp, this is what I have

Re: Intercooler question
im using that exact one for my ls vtec turbo. shooting for 350whp lol ill probably just add a puller fan on the back of the intercooler. im sure itll keep the iat semi low.

Re: Intercooler question
That puller fan on the back of the intercooler is going to cause turbulence as the air is exchanged. 300whp for the "JDM" tube/fin intercooler is ok, but 350whp, no.. get a better intercooler with the money you were going to use for the fans, and don't overcomplicate things.
If budget is a concern, use the Mishimoto, Go-Autowerks alternatives.

Re: Intercooler question
Shodan, will I be okay purchasing the fat intercooler, with 310-330whp? I found this one online for 90$. Also, will a fat 5" ic fit behind my bumper? What would be the negative of having the larger intercooler, boost lag, but thats it? My intercooler just seems so tiny for ~16 psi with a 60 trim turbo.
Thanks

Re: Intercooler question
Instead of looking if the intercooler is fat or whatnot, u must look at intercooler efficiency. 5 inches on the fat side means diddly if the core aint efficient. My old 600 precision IC is 3.5 wide and 8 inches tall and good for ~600whp.

Re: Intercooler question
What I have now :
28'' x 7'' x 2.5''
core Core Size: 21"x7"x2.5"
the intercooler I want to get..
Overall Dimensions: 27.5" X 11.75" X 5.5"
Core Dimensions: 23.25" X 11.5" X 4.25"
How do I tell if its efficient for my set up? I'm looking at this intercooler simply because its a step larger than my current one.
I just found another intercooler that is the same as my current one, but is 11" tall instead of 7". That seems more do able, anyone agree?
