Intercooler piping stainless steel vs alunimun
What do you guys think about stainless steel IC piping I have acess to a mig welder and want to custom make mine. Even with the spool gun i dont think it will be able to weld the aluminum. So is SS ic piping a good or bad idea ? How hot would they get would there be a decrease in performance with SS piping ? How did you get a bead on the end ? Also dose Tial make a ss flange ? If anyone has a ss setup i'de like to hear how they like it and pic if they got them.

This flange is used to attach a TiAL 50mm BOV to your turbo- or super-charged induction system. The flange should be welded between the compressor discharge and the intake throtle plate. The flange is available in Aluminum, 1018 Steel, or 304L Stainless Steel.
Both the weight and heat disapating qualities are minor.
Put a bead of weld at the end of the pipes or have them bead rolled at a metal fab shop. You can make a jig to bead roll your own but it's probobly more work than it's worth.

Ok cool how do you install that flange meaning how do u drill the hole? Drill a hole in the pipe the size of the inside of the flange with a whole saw or somethig lol than juat weld it up.

I dont like aluminum because it can get a hole in it when rubbing things like chassis... and iv tightened my Tbolt clamps and smashed aluminum pipe before.. I only use stainless... doesnt rust or corrode like mild steel or aluminum. Tial and everyone else sells stainless flanges for that reason. It doesnt weigh that much more at all and its bullet proof. If your feeling perky you can polish the **** outa it and it will stay that way without much work compared to the others too.

Howabout the fact that most people probably dont have TIG welders, only MIG. so from a DIY standpoint, they can only make steel charge piping pipe if they have to?
Even with a spool gun, welding AL with a MIG is hard and will go right through the thickness of pipe that is used for charge piping before you even see the pool.

I used mild steel for my ic piping. It welds very well with a mig welder and as far as the heat factor, I will wrap it with heat wrap if necessary. The only way I would use aluminum is if I bought a complete ic piping kit. The savings in weight is not worth the extra price and like posted above, most people will have a very very hard time welding it. It all works when it comes down to it.

wrap heat wrap around it to hold the heat in?? ^^^^^
i dont undertand why ppl do that.. compressed air heats up, making the piping hot, yet they cover it to keep the heat in
