Default intercooler horespower

I know there can be other factors but generally what kind of horsepower would an intercooler with a core of 18x8x2.5 be good for?

idk....i would say about 300hp. I have a 31x6x3 IC and it will support 350-400whp......compare it w/ mine and see where it gets you. The way i figured out the size i needed was to look at Precision and other companies sizing and compare it to mine.

Are you sure its really smaller? ie: h x w x depth... also the core quality makes a difference too.

Efficiency plays a big role. Also the core design. I'd say 250-300WHP on the core you listed.

Is there any kind of general math equation that will get a ballpark on any intercooler, or is this all a big guess?

CFM with cooling capability, but since there are sooooo many factors I believe it's impossible to get an equation so to speak.

This helped me:

Yeah, basically. I think what most people do is flow test their intercoolers, noting the pressure drop and efficiency. Once either drops off quickly, you need a bigger core. Im sure that garrett rates their cores accordingly. Since you can calculate hp from lp/min or cfm, that explains the hp rating system.

Lol, I know I shouldnt be contributing to crap by posting like I did above, but sometimes I cant resist.
