How many of you have oil temp. gauges? Need sensor location mounting info.
I have an autometer mechanical oil temp. gauge. It comes with both a 3/8 npt fitting and an adapter from 3/8 to 1/2 npt. They say to weld a fitting in your oilpan and place the sensor there. Thats not too bad, because I need to weld a fitting in my oilpan for my oil return line soon anyway. Any other place I can place this sensor? ANyone done this before? TIA

get an oil filter sandwitch adapter and put it there. or you can put a tee in your oil feed line and put it there.

you can do it there.... but the ideal location is in the oil pan. because thats where the oil goes after it leaves the motor... its the most accurate reading for temp.
on the sandwich will work, but thats after a few process's have happened which can alter temps.

yes, my feed line is attached there. But in no way would the 1/2" npt fitting even come close to fitting there. It is a 1/8" npt fitting there

go to home depot or something and see if you can get a brass fitting to transition from 1/8 to 1/4, or whatever you need. this is more than likely where i will put my oil temp gauge, and im planning on just gettin a brass T or something

My sensor is on oil pan.
There are also sensors that you can use to replace oil drain screw, and put it instead of it. Easiest way.

To me it seems like the drain plug screw way isnt the best way of going about it. You can damage the element if you move it around to much. Best thing to do is buy the Autometer weld fitting and put it in the pan. Thats where i put mine, a little to the side of the drain there is a flat spot...almost seems like it was meant to be put there.
