Default how does a bov help

i was just wandering how a bov helps your car, and if you really need one. i am planning to install a tmic and figured i would throw a bov in there to make the sound, but does it really help performance or anything. keep in mind i will be running about 10 psi. my engine is a ea82t subaru engine if it helps. thanks.

A BOV prevents compressor surge.

When your boosting 12 psi and let off the gas to shift the throttle plate closes, where is all the boost going to go?? Very bad for the turbo to surge.

Get a BOV!

Because all car's aernt turboed!! Also, most stock cars just use the wastegate because they dont usually run high boost!

10 psi...BOV is a must...unless you like blowing up engines. low boost=5psi...

Well consider this. The Greddy 18G kit for Integras DOES NOT inlcude a bov. Stock spring I think is set to 8lbs. In fact, they don't sell BOVs with either of their Honda kits. So if Greddy can sell it without at bov, you should be fine.

greddy kit is set at 7 psi...second of all...the greddy kit also doesnt come w/ an FMIC...7psi and 10psi is 40whp difference.....and it says on the honda-tech site that 10+=BOV...which is exactly what is posted by myself. get a BOV..its only $200 and it will be good as long as you turbo.

at a very low psi I do not think it is detrimental to the life of the turbo to make sure and have a blow off... however on higher boost applications this pressurized force is much greater and turbo spinning that much faster (which takes longer to slow down once you lift (more so with the bigger and ball bearing units).

some cars come factory with a bypass/ blowoff... but not every turbocharged car employs them.

it is a very easily debated topic, much like the turbo timers and water cooling.

i havent seen a stock turbo car that doesnt have a bov. rx7s, eclipses, mr2s, supras all come w/ stock blowoff valves, most of the time they are just rerouted back into the intake stream so you dont hear them.

mine doesn't have one, and the factory setting is 8 psi. wierd. but then again i dont think my car was really designed for performance.

some turbo volvo's and audi's did not have them until the more recent models.

a bypass valve is what they call them instead when they are just the cheapy recirculating valves.

BOV is good. Otherwise you'll spin the turbine backwards (or at least slow it down a lot), which will make it take forever to spool up the next gear and put lots of force on the internals of the turbo. You'll be fine temporarily, but you'll want to get a BOV ASAP.

actually the back pressure can eventually blow the seals and pressurize the wrong sections of your turbo which contain lubricant (oil)... thus blowing massive amounts of oil that should be recirculated through your turbo and oil system, into your charge piping and intake. thus you smoke like hell and have to rebuild the turbo eventually or replace it.

edit: my grammar and what not is horrible... it late you get the idea.
