BOV NOOB
putting a bov on my wrx, some people dont think a bov is needed because you want the air to go back into the manifold. some people say it makes your turbo spool faster. i want to balance these two sound and power/ running rich. can anyone recommend me some good ones that do not make my car run rich while giving off a nice sound? i was looking toward a turbo xs rfl with a recirculating tube. and what makes your car save gas 100 or 50/50 atmosphere?
thanks

Re: BOV NOOB (envision2teg)
Im not a turbo guy but last time I knew, a bov has nothing to do with fuel/air mix. Doesn't it simply "blow off" extra boost or "dump" boost when throttle is released? Im not sure, but I think im closer than the first guy. Commonly, ricers want the RFL just so they can sound "cool".

its to save the turbo from what is known as compressor surge. when you let off the gas quickly the throttle plate closes and your xxpsi of boost has nowhere to go, but back towards your turbo. This can ruin it with enough boost/time abuse. it has nothing to do with your A/f

Re: BOV NOOB (MadCow)
aw i accidetnly deleted my post
ok what i said was this
on a lot of factory turbo cars the maf sensor is located before the bov
so while the maf is metereing you air density, the injectors inject what is needed. when you blow out that air, you run rich
this is true with most vw's toyota and dsm cars

Re: BOV NOOB (YAYA!)
C'mon we all know compressor surge is cool........
And for those who think you need one....... our twin turbo hemi car runs 2 thumpers at 30+ psi each.... with no BOV whatsoever.. its just something the aftermarket did years ago and then it found its way on to some factory cars..... DSMs etc.....
then again, the hemi is a race car...... i would say on the street its probably worth it, since most don't have the money to screw up turbos or engines so its cheap insurance against any so called damages.....
as for the air flow sensor being on the BOV in a factory car...... never seen that...... and I know WRX;s don't have this setup either.... so in no way will this affect the air/fuel ratio of the car... sounds like you have a case of the rice my friend...... xs rfl leave it stock...... especially if all you plan on doing is the bov...... thats just gay
