Default Hondata S300 and FMU?

Hey guys. I have a question, is there ANY reason to run a hondata S300 and an FMU? And if so why?

Thanks mtber, That's what I thought. The reason I asked is because I just got my car back from having my old vafc taken off and hondata S300 installed and tuned and to my surprise there was my FMU still hooked up!

Time to have a little talk with the shop..

What size injectors are you running?
What fuel pump (pump and injectors)?
What engine setup?
How much boost are you running?
What map sensor are you running?
How much power are you making?

Yeah the fmu is pointless now, it needs to be removed and retuned as the S300 was probably tuned for higher fuel pressure with the fmu.

Yeah it is pretty crazy, I have had so many problems with this shop that it is getting ridiculous. The bad thing is this was a pretty "reputable" shop that builds 10sec honda drag cars ect so they know better, now I question their honesty.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Just so I am well informed, is the FMU just not needed or would it make the car run worse then if it were removed? I have noticed the car still running rich which I suspected was because of the FMU but was not positive about it.

Any details about how the FMU will affect how the car runs with hondata would be very appreciated.

Yeah the FMU is not needed at all with your setup. I wouldn't remove it though because the tuning was done based on xxx fuel pressure and if you remove the fmu you may run lean because the fuel pressure will be lower, however, if you have some sort of way to accurately monitor the AFR then by all means remove it and keep an eye on the guauge/software.

I would talk to the shop 1st though.

thats the thing
alot of people ran 10s on a fmu back then(built motor with no tune)
now s300 with tune+ stock motor runing 10s.......

a good tune makes the difference

With the injectors & fuel pump you have there is no reason to run an fmu by any means.
My advice, demand a refund and go somewhere else for a re-tune. I don't know why anyone would have left an FMU installed on a setup like yours.

Yeah, I will be going to see them soon. Also another thing, today I started the car up to run to the bank and it was missing like crazy and actually died, so I started it up and let it run for a min and was still missing, so I pulled the spark plugs and they were completely fouled out. I have driven the car 481 miles exactly since the tune and my plugs are fouled, that's not normal.

Did they use a wideband and dyno or at least street tune the car with some kind of real time monitoring? I'm wondering if they just installed some random map they had from previous setups or from the net .. For example a lot of tuners will just use some map that's for a b16a with a t3/t4,450cc injectors @ 10 psi of boost. I've seen it done before and I'm sure some still do this as it works a lot of times, just not with a damn fmu still hooked up.
