Heavier weight oil for S/C engine?
I would just like to know what weight oil all of you are currently running in a mildly boosted(6lbs to 8lbs) engine, especially supercharger guys. It's about time for an oil change and I'm wondering if I should go up to Mobil 1 10w30 or stay at 5w30. This is for a B18C1 S/C @6lbs. I have used MObil1 0w30 before, but that was before I was supercharged, any experiences or opinions are welcomed...

theres oil rated for FI type motors... for got the initials on the bottle. SG or SC or something like that. Most oils are fine, especially the Mobil 1 you've been using with 0-30 I noticed it really burned fast in my old car so I went back to 5-30

there should be no difference between 5w30 and 10w30 on a boosted car since you shouldnt be boosting until the engine (and therefore the oil) is fully warmed up, in which case it will be at 30 weight regardless. remember the idea behind a mutiweight oil is the first number is the viscocity when its cold, and the second number is once its warmed up. so if you want a thicker oil while boosting, the 10w40 would be the way to go. i'm interested if this is a good idea as well.

yes but I have found that heavier cold temperatue weight causes harder starts and excessive vibrations at idle...with the Honda Gold 5w-40 full synthetic...the car hums at any temperature...best oil ever!

yes i'm sure it does start easier with the thinner low-temp viscocity. however the point i was making is that the low-temp rating has nothing to do with if you are FI or not. good info though
