Do I need to drive it 500 miles before I tune it? Absolutely not. How about 50 miles? No. Perhaps the best thing to do is to drive it all the way to your trailer and tow it to a competent tuner. In second position on the “things NOT to do list” is trying to break in an un-tuned engine by driving it. Too lean an air/fuel will begin to heat and distort parts, too rich will wash the oil off the cylinders causing premature wear. What is in first place on the “things NOT to do list”? Boost on an un-tuned motor. Within 2 to 3 seconds the pistons and cylinders can be ruined.

I cannot stress enough that if you boost on a un tuned motor you WILL melt your pistons.

hmm..maybe you have really thin hoses? or you could have massive amount of air in your coolant. But on the other hand, if you had that much air in your coolant you would not be able to drive down to the end of your street without overheating. You said you boosted on your motor already (unfortunately) so I'm guessing you arnt overheating..

np. If you absolutely have drive your car before you get it tuned, take out your wastegate spring as a fail safe. Removing it will prevent you from hitting boost granted your not WOT. Even without a spring, it is still possible to hit 1-2psi under full throttle.

Yup, and remember, when you blow your engine, a quick hone with the pistons in will fix everything.

hmm. I know if you drive with your IC piping off you can over spin the turbo. Wouldn't removing the BOV be the same concept? or is that something completely different?

No, you're right, you can. He can't go around punching the gas and whatnot, but it's a smaller leak compared to pulling the IC piping off and the turbo will still have some resistance so that he can drive normally and not have to worry about ruining the turbo.
