I don't understand how you are "killing two birds with one stone" with it.

A VAFC allows you to alter fuel input at a certain RPM, the problem with the hack is, that it doesn't allow you to adjust ignition tables. The injectors are pulsed slower by hunting for a lower MAP value on the ECU. The problem with this, is that it hunts for a lower ign value as well. This makes the timing a LOT more advanced than it should be, and you need a good bit of base retard to keep from detonating.

You use the base map (-35 across the board) and get a wideband and tune from there until you're happy with your A/F readings.

funny I've been running it for over a year and never detonated, then after throwing it on the dyno at work I see a/f is pretty safe.

There are always good stories about any product but why not go one of the free programs.

I would run an afc hack long before I would do an fmu.. But a tunable ems system is the best option..

I ran my 00 JRSC GSR for over 50k miles on an FMU, compression checked out great in the end, and it ran well. I had the hack on my turbo ZC and it ran like **** from day one.

Many, many people do fine with an FMU, hell, most turbo kits come with one. But all it takes is a search to find numerous people who have popped their motors on the hack.

Both perform off the same basic principle, however an FMU won't advance your timing at the worst possible time. Pretty easy decision if you ask me.

It is a pretty easy decision.. Get a tunable ecu and be done with it..
