Default h22a or h23a turbo??/did search,didn't answer my questions!!

I have the h23 right now, and people tell me to just stick with this because it's better for boosting, but they don't really know why...they say cause it has lower compression, but u can just resleeve the block of a h22, increase the displacement, and add some low compression pistons, right??

And there's also something about the cams(the overlap or something)they talk about, but i plan to go all aftermarket head and block, build it real strong!

So, it seems like whenever someone tells me the h23 is better for boost, they don't really know what they are talking about, or why it is better in fact! It's just because they heard it was better by everyone!

It seems to me, that if ya lower the compression a bit and sleeve and add displacement as well as most importantly tuning it right, the h22a has an advantage over the h23, wouldn't it??? c'mon u turbo experts, help me out!

in a sence its better but not really i dont think.
thats why papadakis runs a H22. they have a point about the overlap but still if u lined up a h23 turbo and h22 turbo i think the h22 would win given they have same mods. SI tranny is better for boost.

The valve overlap issue can be seriously helped with adjustable cam gears. The h23 will be eaiser to get satisfiable results but with tuning and $ the h22 will rule all, don't believe me?

If your going to build the motor either way... go H22.

If your going to keep the motors stock internally, go H23.

Easy as that.

Thanks for the link...that turbo is insane, i don't plan on going that big, but i definetly will bullet proof my block and head..no stock internals, mainly for reliability purposes though, and if one day i decide to upgrade it, if that need for more speed ever comes!

Is the only point of sleeving and increasing displacement to allow more boost and to allow it safely?? And does it lower the compression alot, say if i went from a 2.2 to a 2.4?

Sorry for all the questions, but i'm definetly a newb to turbos!

the reason that people say that an H23 is better for forced induction is because it has a closed deck as opposed to the open deck of the H22.

All 92-96 h motors are closed deck, 97-up h22s are open deck.

That's doesn't really matter if you're going to sleeve the block anyways.

Stock-wise, the H22 is equally as strong as the H23a. The "weak" point in the H series motors are the ringlands, which seem to give out under boost more quickly than stock B series pistons.

My points for building my H23a turbo setup is that 1) I have a FREE block to start off with. 2) It's easier to TUNE with only one camshaft profile. 3) Displacement. 2.4L moves ALOT of air, which means more potential for more HP. 4) It was a FREE block!

Plus, when I drop this into a CRX...this thing will fly! Either that or torque the chassis apart to the point where I can't even shut the door anymore?!
