Golden Eagle Rust
I just thought Id throw this out there -- are any of you with golden eagle sleeves experiencing rust spots on your sleeves ? I got my block back about 2 days ago and it has been sitting on my engine stand since then -- I put oil in the sleeves and on the top but they seem to be forming rust spots already. What should I do/ can I do anything about this ? It has me worried that in a month or so it will be rusted to hell. If anyone has experience with this, or if you just have your ge sleeved block in your garage and are assembling it, let me know.
they reccommend when you install it to drop some bars leak in there and it should prevent all the rust from forming. I would jsut clean it up with some wd40 like art stated

you have to keep them WD 40's up at all times...when they are not in the car..
And when they are in the car, you need to put some of that Zerex anti rust treatment in it....
THe bars leak doesn't stop rust, it stops water leaks.

Are you serious about needing Zerex anti-rust? I've heard about the Bars Leak, but not about the pouring in some anti-rust. Is this a new proceedure?

Spray them with the wd-40 and then wrap a large plastic garbage bag around the motor. The bag keeps some moisture out and slows the wd40 from evaporating. Also, the bars leak contains lubricants and anti rust agents so it does work once the engine is in the car.

Depending on how bad the rust is, you can usually spray a little WD-40 on a rag and rub the rust spot until it comes out. It is very easy. If the rust actually has major pits under it, you may consider getting someone to look at it to determine what to do?!
Just a tidbit of trivia. If you pull the original patent on Bahr's Leak, you will find the original ingredients and their purpose. Its a real hoot. The basic ingredient is a ground up vegetable root called a rhizome. Something like ginger root. The "water pump lubricant" is the oil binder used to hold the powdered rhizome together.
In its original formulation a real hoot wouldn't you say. I would not put too much faith in any anti rust prevention of Bahr's leak. Sure there is oil in it and oil prevents rust............It sure does plug nusiance leaks well though!
I have used it and it works.

thanks vince -- the rust had just started and was barely there, the wd-40 worked fine
I was under the impression that if I kept the cylinders oiled they would not rust, evidently I was wrong. You guys should write that on the sheet that you put the bar's leaks warning on -- I, for one, did not know the ductile iron rusted so fast
It was literally a day later the spots were forming, and they were covered in oil. Anyway thanks for the advice guys, my block is good to go again
