Default -glowing turbo?? bad news?-

alright- i have a turbonetics t3/t4 oil cooled turbo on my 98 built prelude- im runnin a 2 3/4 inch dp and breaking it in around 9 psi- Last night i went with some friends up to a place called the skyline drive, lotsa twistie uphill turns, switchbacks, ect..... ran it pretty hard for about 15 20 minutes and got to a pull off and we all pulled over- i poped my hood and found the very edge of my turbo(on the exhaust side) and downpipe glowin a little red, ive had the car for 6 months now and havnt noticed this before- but when the GSX eclipse and SRT-4 poped thier hoods their turbos were all red to- i let mine run for about half an hour till it was good and cool, so whats the chances i messed sumthin up?

my friend's 91 probe turbo does that after a hard drive.... but his IHI is cranking out 18 psi... LOL
no joke tho... your turbo's prolly fine, you just got it nice and hot, that's all.... it's the same idea as a header getting a little red after some hot autocross laps.... just don't touch it

Turbos getting that hot are normal, which is why I would never want to run an oil-only turbo.

I agree with the other postes, this is a normal occurence. On a side note, Skyline drive is freaking amazing! The year pass is the way to go

Yup thats normal even for low boost because you pushed on it for a while so things tend to get hot....but yeah you gotta see my turbo and manifold after i do 1-5 gear pulls runing 30psi.

Hey man. I'm glad you decided to let it run and cool off - dumbasses would have just turned the car off to let it cool off. Good job though.
