If the probe is in the exhaust manifold collector, you shouldnt have anything over 1600F. Ive seen other cars run up to 1800F and not have issues, but I like to tune for safety. Get the car on a wideband o2 though so you know what side of the EGT's your on.

yeah..it all depends on where the probe is mounted. Some mount it on the third runner of the turbo manifold because it is the hottest. Some people run at the collector because it gets readings from all four cylinders, and some just do it at the downpipe. I've heard mixed opinions on where is the best place to mount the probe. Anybody have any expertise on this?

I run mine about 12" away from the exhaust ports in the collector. The hottest I've ever seen is 1550 degrees, and it blew out my high flow cat. Since I've started to figure out the Hondata, it hasn't seen temps past 1450 deg.

Btw, I'm running an Autometer guage, on a jrsc high CR B series motor.

Farenheit, if I remember correctly.
If school taught me anything (which I still doubt it did), 1450 Celsius should be hot enough to melt steel.

I just picked a EGT gauge from Autometer, and it says to mount the probe 1 - 2" before the turbo...that would be on the manifold. I would guess in the collector would be ideal. And it is in Farenheit.

you know what's up!

FYI, a week after the fateful day that I toasted my cat, I took the motor apart for new internals, and was shocked as to how clean the pistons were. No signs of burning, or damage at all.

Actually, after having one block fugged up by the machine shop, I regretted taking it apart.
