Default EGT Probe

Hey guys which are some optional places to drill the probe from a Greddy EGT that do not include the manifold. I was thinking the downpipe from the wastegate (on a closed looped system), any other ideas? I'm thinking somewhere down by the O2 sensor would be too far away right?...
thanks my fellow boosters

you need it close to possible to the manifold. what you can do is tap it right out of the dp where it meets the turbo on the bend.

on my turbo there was a small cavity at the back of the housing that was sealed off by the downpipe mounting plate.. so what i did is i drilled through the downpipe mounting plate to that cavity and put the EGT there.. Ive been told its a bit too close so my readings are a bit high but it seems to work well

Mount the EGT probe a distance from the exhaust port on the head that is equivalent to HALF of the runner diameter.

And for your readings to really be useful, the EGT probe must be BEFORE the turbo. The wg dump pipe won't work because that only sees exhaust temp when the wastegate is wide open, so it would take a second to heat up to exhaust temp after you reach full boost. Plus you don't want it on the exit side of a valve like the wastegate - the throttling effect will drop the temp .

OK how about this: put in a spacer between the manifold and wastegate and tap in that spacer?...

I would imagine that to be fine, it might respond a LITTLE slower since it's not directly in the exhaust flow, but I can't see it being a huge problem.

i'm having mine mounted in the Cylinder 1 exhaust pipe in the manifold. Being done by Fmax at their recommendation. Should be somewhere before the turbo
