mounted egt probe on turbo car?
autometer says mount it 3 inches from turbo outlet, that would be in the downpipe right, and for n/a it says mount it by the head, since im turbo i should mount it in the downpipe correct?

Wondering about this also guys. I've seen most people put them inside the exhaust manifold before the turbo. I would think in the manifold is better since the turbo absorbs some of the exhaust heat/energy. Is the difference between the two mounting locations important?

there is a significant temperature difference between putting the probe in a runner and putting it after the turbine. Most people on here seem to place the probe in the 3rd exhaust runner about 1" from the head. However, there is an argument that the probe could break and destroy your turbine. I guess its really a matter of preference, and knowing what numbers to expect from what probe location

Re: mounted egt probe on turbo car? (austrian type-R)
I put my probe in the number 3 runner because my manifold was purchased used. Also, most of the people here on H-T seem to have done the same and it makes it possible to compare numbers. If #2 cylinder is leaning out and the probe is in the downpipe I don't think you would see a significant temp difference because the probe would be seeing the average temp of all 4 cylinders. The #3 cylinder is supposedly the one that runs the hottest. In reality the only way to be 100 percent sure is to do as mentioned above and get 4 probes, one for each runner. That would still leave the posibility of the probe breaking and going through the turbine.
