Housings mean nothing. you need to measure the wheels/ turbine shaft to determine what it is you have. Or, best case is to send it to gpopshop.com and erase all doubt.

there should be a metal tag on the bearing housing with the turbo part number on it

it's probably a clone and not a garrett, which means it's probably not that rebuildable

Not having a tag is not conclusive at all. There are many aftermarket applications in the series that do not have tags on them, that doesn't necessarily mean its not a Garrett. (Hell, none of the ones I create ever have one.) Most OEM applications will have tags on the backplates, but most Aftermarket does not. Until we see some measurement information and pictures, there's really not a whole lot that can be done except to send it in to gpopshop.

ok shodan, how many aftermarket applications actually use garrett parts and not 'garrett-ish' parts? Everything is from the far east now and not from the mexico

Actually, there are still plenty of applications from both Turbonetics and Precision that are out there that were created and sold when they were still under contract with Garrett at the time that they were made. (especially those turbos that were pre-2009). Name plates are mainly for OEM applications, and those universal applications that were popular enough to be pre-assembled,(such as the 57, 60 "trim", and the stage 3 turbine wheel package of the 60-1 all have the blue stamping plate of 46659 -XXXX) while the others do not. For example, the GT3540S Garrett turbocharger uses some standard OEM parts from the Garrett line-up, but because it is not a standard package like the 46659 series, they never had a blue or green (rebuilt) namplate stamp.

So again, unless we know more information, not having a nameplate does not mean its not a Garrett turbocharger..But it doesn't mean that it is either.

I just rebuilt a Garrett T3/T4 using this kit. The kit covers several different turbos so you have a few parts that you may not need to use.
