fully built sohc???
what are your opinions on a fully built single cam motor. got a friend with a block thats been sleeved, has je pistons and crower rods. im thinking about picking it up from him and snatching a spare sohc vtec head that another friend has sitting in his garage and building that. and of course going turbo. what do you guys think? its gonna be in a hatch
what kind of times do you think i can post with this setup and turbo?

All depends on how hard you push it. I'm gonna be pushing 400whp on mine, looking for 11's, but this in a loaded EX coupe.

i wanna fully build the motor and hopefully get some low 12's or high 11's in it. this is going in a eg civic. what steps should i take in building one for turbo and what should i use?
wanna trade that sleeved block for a legit gsr shortblock with all internals? i think the sohc have a lot of potential and can be very fun to play around with. blow a engine and replace it for dirt cheap.
Trending Topics
the block includes ductile sleeves, new srp pistons, esp rods, balanced and blue printed and can take up to 35 lbs of boost. JG said that it is capable of 550 horsepower. Read more about it at: http://www.jgenginedynamics.com/shortblock
good luck
good luck
i think just for the simple fact that i turboed mine, building the sohc is perfect. not to many people bother with it, but i just love the little guy. But i'm building my as much as i can. As for right now, i'm buying parts, then installing over winter so she'll be ready for the summer. crower or eagle rods, srp pistons 9.0:1, crower stage 2 cam, crower valve springs and titanium retainers, crower valves, bore it to 1.8, resleeve it, arp head studs, anything else you guys/girls can think of let me know. Also, I didn't mention this is an automatic that will be seeing 12's. I will build this automatic to destroy 5spds, cause i'm sick of hearing how crappy it is. Sorry had to vent.

my friend has a built sohc vtec spent around 6000 everything you can think of its there just the block. he has a huge front mount intercooler with a t4 turbo running 20 pounds of boost running in a gutted 93 hatch and it ran a 10.9 this thing is quick as ****, I think you should go for it, i never really would have thought of doing it but after my buddies car what the hell.

All that and a totally different turbo setup. The Greddy is probably fun at stoplights but it's not going to go far in the 1/4.
BTW ... I'm an SOHC guy too, but we have to be realistic. Put a 5 speed in it. Japanese autos are not the same as domestics, they just are not good for the strip.

i have a d16z6 in my 91 crx dx, with a homemade turbo set up, and i love it..
i took it to thr track last thursday, and topped my oil off. turns out the return is a little low in the pan, and i have to run it a quart low...anyway, i went 14.3 blowing oil through the motor. i mean it was sputtering really bad in full boost...i figure it's good for a 13.7 or so...and i'm all stock running a mazda 626 turbo (TINY)...i love my sohc!

SOHC is great for a buildup. How ever note that parts are genenally harder to get or less for my motor (f22b1). At the time I was building mine up i had a hard time getting the right parts. But now after eight months of BS around with JE, race engineering. I finally got my motor up and running. I running a built f22 with a fmax turbo (13psi), and dual stage NX, launching with a 100shot from 2000-3300rpm then a 50 shot around 50mph. *NOTE* the 100 shot shuts off at 3300

not really luck, just a bigger turbo and alot more money. I realize i'd have to have an all drag automatic to go into the single digits and a completely different motor, i just want to show case what a sohc can do, let alone with an automatic. She's come a long way. From n/a running 17.4 at 80 to 3psi(heat killed it)doing 15.6 @90. Mplex2000, yes the japanese auto is pretty well, crappy, but I can build it. She moves though, at the track we took out a gsr and a si both with i/h/e and better tires, so i'm very happy at 5psi, but now i need more. The greddy kit will go far, when i'm ready for 12's, i'll probably have to step up to a drag kit, but she'll get me to the 13's. I don't remember what max boost on the 15g is, but i think it's about 15psi and that should be good for some high 13's w/slicks. I could beat rice cars before the turbo, she gives people a run for their money. I realize Iroc z's are older but i ran a guy with a rebuilt one and he never pulled and neither did I we just stayed neck and neck. GS-T's i don't think are rice and this guy at least had an exhaust and in the end his nose was at my rear bumper. The greddy kit is a nice street kit, for better times, obviously need a bigger turbo, but not till i build the motor some.

I didn't even know they made "build" part for the automatic. I wish you the best of luck. Honda automatics have always been shitty. You are right a SOHC and an Automatic. Blow away a 5 speed B series and I think the person would kill himself.
