Default Fried turbo?

Now im 99% sure my turbo is fried, it makes 14 lbs fine but at about 4k it starts to make almost a howling sound, not high pitched but almost as if its rubbing against something (the housing), now my question is anyone know of a good place in Upstate ny to have your turbo rebuilt? and maybe an around about price?

Turbo is a vj-14 blades look good.

jiggle your compressor blades to see if it has any shaft play...could just be something else doing it.

Is it smokin like crazy? You sure its not your wastegate? If the blades were rubbing on a housing or something, it would be obvious when you looked at them. Good luck.

Merry Xmas

Well, if its at full boost and the wastegate opens, it will howl if vented. I dunno if you just got the kit or anyhting so I just threw the question out there. Usually a bad turbo will smoke like hell.

any turbo that is going to be bad or fried would actually smoke is one issue oil will be in thedownpipe and turbine and compressor sections. The other thing you will notice is the blades would be scarring the housings or rubbing against it. If if not that then it is something else in your setup

ok well i found out i have a blown headgasket is it safe to assume that it could have been the head gasket? If not time to go over it with a fine tooth comb again, it starts to howl at 4k and im making full boost at 2800, so what do you guys think it could be? Could a vaccum leak do this? maybe timing? i know the turbos getting oil and coolant and its also returning both oil and coolant to the block.

Any help is appreciated.
