bwhahahaha...

Yeah... that was the kicker... it was holding a cut peice from a "No skateboarding" sign to block off the WG port We were going to drill it, but we saw the mini c clamp and couldn't resist.

#$@@%$# damnit.

No function7 flanges today... that sucks ***! No tracking number either.

****... I got a 16Lb package thru UPS ground faster than those flanges...so aside from me kmaking a DP this weekend, I am not waiting on anything else (aside from making a pipe to go from the turbo to the D/S fenderwell at the charge piping... or maybe interim I can just bypass the IC all together... but what would be the point right??? sleeper status maybe... but the car looks rice sooo...

I got the turbo home on my lunch break, and sprayed the living **** out of the exhaust side with carb cleaner... alot of stuff came out... but not what I really expected... heavy soot built up on the inside... the whole hot side housing had it everywhere, so it came off a blown motor... good news for me.

Afterwords, I took a bottle of the synthetic lucas oil stabelizer, and lubed up the turbine/housing and the wheel spun pretty good, but seemed to not feel "clean", as if there was still alittle bit of derbis in it, so I need to clean it up some more. I will use the compressor housing from tm old .42/.48 cause it is in better shape then the one I got.

The compressor wheel is another story... dings and scratches... nothing bad or detrimental, but enough to make me want to start saving for a brand new turbo now.

ok, off to the shop.. work is over!

Lolz to all.

Yeah... This thread really kinda sat in the dark for a little bit... then I got busy with it and got some **** done.

Crack... whatever... the best part about it is:

I took the turbo's exhaust housing off (with a hammer cause of all the damned rust) and took a look at the hot-side turbine... no scoring or damage... WTF?

So I looked at the exhaust housing and saw no cracking whatsoever on the turbine portions of the housing... the crack ended up turning and going right down the middle of there the smallest portion of airspace meets the exhaust inlet portion.... And after looking under the wastegate, Indeed, it did not crack like the normal run of the mill turbo's... every one I have seen has cracked and split in the turbine section of the housing and fucked up the compressor wheel.

Niiice... and the way the crack is traveling, There is no signs of it heading that direction (As soon as I get a camera, I will post up some pics).

I have the manifold, turbo, and WG all bolted together right now.... looks sexy! I showed one of my buddies that came down to visit yesterday, and he tripped out and couldn't believe that I spent only around $300 on all those parts (lines and all).

Aside from that, I am waiting on those damned Function7 flanges....

Now... I thought somewhere I read that the Function7 Inlet flange had a built-in restrictor...

If not, I will cut out a gasket, apeice of steel, and drill my own 1/16" oil jet that will go between the flange and turbo.

Side note: I will at-least get a pic for you guys to see.... I got this 150cc Honda Moped for free a month or 2 ago... We have been taking it on MX tracks and whatnot back by the lake here....

And I put my buddy Ron on it... who I let ride my streetbike a year ago, and he almost wrecked it into a parked car pulling out.... came back saying "I can see how you can kill yourself in less than a second with this thing";

Put him on the moped after taking a few jumps with it... so he went out with iron *****, and ended up in a tree.... almost getting his asophagus ripped out by a tree branch...

A chunk of skin and hair was left on the end of the branch, while the people standing and watching's jaws dropped to the floor....

funny ****... u see the pic and you will understand.

ok, short and sweet: If you wanna buy a set of Function7 Flanges, one is 1/2" thread, and the other is a -4AN inlet (with restrictor).

$30 shipped. comes with origional invoice/instructions, I paid $35. Brand-new peices. Get em while they are HOTTT!

ok, after sitting down with my buddie I ordered through, we figured it out...

He did not check to see that he needed to specify -3an and he sent -4 because it is "standard" whatever the hell he means by that... Zum said he emailed asking -3 or -4 and waited a week for the response; my friend never got that email. Problem 1 found.

Problem 2: We ordered the wrong kit The one with the 1/2" threaded flange instead of -10AN... whatever.

So... I am selling the flange kit (posted on craigslist) taking a $5 hit and try to get 30 back for them.

I will be ordering new flanges friday, ans they will be sent 2day [blue] so they make it by tuesday. Then I just need to see if I have the time/resources to fit up a DP.

good news is that the F7 flanges have the correct size restrictor...

even though I had to use a needle to clean out the fitting as the hole was not deburred correctly and I would have had some pieces of billett end up in my turbo at some point... not cool.

anyways, good flanges none the less, and I will have everything needed to get it in around sometime next week.

Ok,

New flanges on order, also a new oil cap. If I get access to that exhaust shop I will fab a DP. For that DP, I will fit up a stock GTI MKIV Cat (from a 1.8T) so I can run that with the turbo. For track day, or when i'm feelin squirrley, I will have a test pipe to fit in place of the cat Basically the same setup I had on my 4D.. hi-flo cat, or test pipe: Pic below is the example;

More TBA, and if I go home and pick up my laptop and ****, I will take some pics cause I found my crappy digital camera and memory card.

Oil cap: better than the APC peice of ****, and it actually looks nice.

Flange Kit: the right ones.

Ok, New flanges came in...

Some peice of work really...

First I order a set (wrong set in the haste of being quick) and my buddie forgets to specify -3AN, and I get a -4AN restricted fitting.

No big deal.

I get my second set, the correct one, specifying: -3AN for the feed.

What do they send?

a -3AN un-regulated fitting...

WTF?

His auctions state nothing about regulated/unregulated... and I am starting to wonder. I assumed because it mentions nothing about it, and I got the -4 regulated......

anyways, I emailed Function7 directly, and hashed it out.

First he states that I won't need a restricted fitting... but I am going off the suggestions and notes from hundreds of people across many boards/references/years. 90% of them suggest a restrictor in a honda due to the oil pressure, when I put this in one of the correspondence emails, he said that the fact that I saw over 100PSI (even with a freshly rebuilt motor) that it was not right.

Every civic I have owned has seen 100+PSI cold, and max 100PSI hot.... so.. no big deal there, my main concern to him was blowing oil past the seals as the turbo is used.

After discussing it, he said the -3AN feed should restrict the flow enough, especially being 38". So if I need to get a restrictor, then I will just cut out a peice of steel, and drill a hole, then sandwitch it under the fitting.

Ok,

On my lunch break, I stopped by the exhaust shop I go to all the time... he quoted me:

$40 each

for u bends...

WTF? and he doesn't even have a mandrel bender, it is the compression type that compresses the tubes hella... WTF.. rip-off to the max!

Default Hmm

I created an account on this forum for the express purpose of making this post.

To the haters... Y'all need to get a life. This guy has taken nothing and is slowly turning it into a usable car. I really doubt that half the people that read these pages could literally build a setup like this from scratch.

To Jared... Keep at it bro, I've been following your progress for a few weeks now with morbid fascination... It's kinda like a train wreck, you don't want to watch but for some reason you just can't turn away. Looks like you could actually turn this into a usuable car that a person outside of Arkansas wouldn't be too embarassed to drive.

To those in the bay area... I live in mo-hill, near gilroy... the likes of this car fit right in

lol, but yeah. I have been having fun with this... and am currently in the next step of the build:

I need to prep the old 4D to do a motor swap: This will free up the D15B for the ricer. A person that has been like a little sister to me for years is buying the 4D. $1200-1500 (haven't decided yet) and I will get the down payment probably this or next week.

I will have to pull the motor, rebuild it (as far as my pockets will allow me, but I want pistons roda, and all new bearings... so I dunno yet) and slap it in the ricer with the kit. I will either fab up a DP and run the setup on the D15B8 for now, or fab up the DP and wait to put it on the D15B. I don't have access to a dyno in the area (aside from the one on the smog machine at the test-only station which does me no good in that respect) So I can't get #'s till the D15B is in and I am ready to rock.

But.. continuing:

I will be putting the good smog motor into the 4D and giving her the car. And I will have my D15B in the ricer with the setup installed. I like this idea.

Now... running the setup on the D15B8 (smog motor) causes a problem... I would need to put the tapped oil pan on it, and I really don't want to have to transfer the pan between new motors, I would rather use it on the D15B only.... So the dillema hauntsa me =P

I need to go through my stuff I have stored at my parents' storage.. look for my camcorder; I need vids again.

**EDIT: And mind you... the pvc setup will come back once again... once the dyno day comes!

Ok,

Now it seems all the service work stacks up at once: my friend thought he blew his tranny this morning on the way to work... after checking it out on my break, I found the shift cable broken just after the shaft that extends to the shifter assembly in the cab... we locked the tranny in 2nd, and he drove it home untill we get the cable.

Another friend... well, my ex called me and asked me to change an alternator in a sunfire tomorrow. Cool. I'll do it,

And I had a friend that I had helped out when he was hurtin for cash and needed his ride to get to work.. the shop said he had a blown motor (with a stethascope) and I saw a harmonic balancer hanging off the crank when I looked at it... well, after impacting the pulley back on with a new keyway; he was happy. Now, 3 months later, it happened again.

On top of that, I have to change a clutch and rear main seal on a 95 dodge neon. That will be fun... I hope so anyways.

Anyone in the bay wanna buy a 94 DX auto 2D for 2,500? clean title, and mechanically sound. Body is in decent-ok shape.. interior aint too bad. Mileage not rediculous, and I have worked on it myself, and it runs good/clean. hit me up if ur interested... (he asked me to spread the word =P)

so....

now I need to find some time that I don't have to pull the motor/trans out of the 4D so I can start tearing into it and asses if I need to rebuild the bottom end.

Aside fromt that, I think I am going to hold off on the turbo/injector install so I can put the injectors in it instead of the P32 IM I am running right now, and so that I don't need to dismount the oil pan from the D15B8 to transfer to the D15B.

Sorry to delay this build guys, but now that the ricer is my DD [Daily Driver for you un-savvy folks] so I can't have any downtime.
