Default Explain this!!!

I was reading an article from SCC a few issues ago featuring a street legal Turbonetics T-61 powered 1981 Toyota Corolla (TE70 + 3TC) that has been modified up the wazoo. This car is in Florida.

My question is if this car is street legal, than why are turbo Hondas illegal??!? CONFUSED

Turbo honda are not illegal here in Virginia. I think due to emmision inspections in Cali, they might not pass.

It's all about emissions laws bro, and Fl. pretty much has none.

A lot of kit makers will say that their kits are street legal, but that is different from being smog legal. Heck if I wanted to I could pu together a kit that has the same exact setup as a CARB legal but it still doesn't make my kit smog or CARB legal.

...dont confuse street legal with smog/carb legal.

Typically when people say street legal that means it's legal to drive on the street. If your car can't pass an emissions test at any given time, then it isn't street legal.

I'm assuming it's because it's an 81 and it's in Florida. It probably wouldn't fly on an OBD-II car, even in Florida.

Florida = no emissions/inspection testing

The days of "tipping" testers and switching test pipe to catalytic conv. and back and forth have been over for over 2 years
