Default engine build recommend

I'm already starting to loose a little compression in #4 cylinder and was wondering if you guys recommend resleeving? I plan to run up to 12lbs of boost. This is my daily driver and have another car to turn the boost up on, so i want this to be mydependable car and not give me to many problems. Now i'm just trying to decide if sleeving the motor would just be overkill and a waste of money. I am leaning towards just upgrading pistons and rods. But would like the added security of the sleeves and i already have an extra block. Examples of motors without sleeves and mileage would be great just looking for some input.

if you have the funds..just get it sleeved now. you will regret it later on down the road when you decide you want more power and have to do it all over again.

stock sleeve has been shown to be reliable around 20psi with a really good tune...

but eitherway you are going to have to get a good tune...the sleeves are just going to let you have piece of mind and ability to run big boost later down the road

On some turbo's, 20psi can yield 450whp, others 300whp, and that's not what really will kill the sleeves. It is the high cylinder pressure that will kill them, like you get when you run a lot of ignition timing, so pick someone who you really trust for the tune and I'm sure you can reach your power goals.

thats true...but mean just in general on the usual honda t3/t4, 60-1, ect (and yes theres alot of variation and attainable power within though, but im not meaning for it to get to technical)...you can also say that people have made reliable 450+whp cars on stock sleeves while others break **** at 250...i agree that the tuning is what is gonna make or break it....of the people that have blown blocks with stock sleeve, only a fraction have broke due to more power then the sleeves can hold

Start with the basics. What is your power goal and do your forsee yourself craving "more power" once you reach that goal?

If your goals are 350whp or so, sleeving is not necessary... will it create a safer situation, sure (assuming they dont leak/sink, which really isnt all that common when you put the numbers into perspective as in # of honda sleeved blocks to # of those who had sinkage issues), but again unnecessary for the goals.

Sleeves are support for your cylinders, so as aforementioned, its the cylinder pressures that blow stock sleeves. Just dont go nuts with 11:1 compression pistons and boost. Stick with the commonly chosen 9:1 shelf pistons (Wiseco, CP, etc.) some upgraded rods, Eagles will suffice for the above power goal and possibly a block guard. I like the GE block guards personally (despite peoples opinions on their actual sleeves) as it doesnt create a closed deck type situation like most other guards do. Necessary? Debatable, but Ive seen situations where some were making 350whp without so much as a block guard, so there you go.

A step at a time is the way to handle ANY boosted application as well as plenty of planning and research. There are A LOT of smart people available on HT to learn from and absorb info from. Some will give their opinions and experience in different manners (some may come off as bitter, some gay, etc.) but... remember, its the experience they share that counts.

Just like anything, such as starting a business.. you gots to have a PLAN to succeed.
