Default Difference between a/r .48 and a/r .63

When the description of a turbo says say t3/t4 50 trim a/r .48 what does all that mean. What does the trim mean and what does the a/r mean??? thanks in advance

It refers to the size of the compressor/turbine housing. The bigger the number the bigger the housing.

trim is the size of the compressor fins. There's an equation for it. Basically you plug in the lenght of the inducer and exducer and you get the trim.

Im looking for a quick spooling turbo for only about 12 psi MAX. I will probably run 8 psi daily and 12 psi for high boost. what would be the specs of a turbo that i should look for?

i was told a t3/t4 50 trim but not sure of the a/r

What motor is it going on? I have a Precision SC50 off my totalled d16-T civic for sale. It's a 50 trim turbo with a .60 compressor side and i got the smaller optional .48 exhaust side so it spools pretty good even for a 1.6L sohc.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by xtremeness101 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">When the description of a turbo says say t3/t4 50 trim a/r .48 what does all that mean. that refers to turbine housing, theres usually 3 stages of wheels to choose from. for turbonetics 1 is smaller diameter, while 2 and 3 are same outer diameter but 3 has larger inducer.

theres a formula to calculate a/r based on your compressor trim. how much whp do you plan to have, what type of engine and redline.

for 250whp, you'd be good with .48 a/r. i'm running T04B 50 trim - .48 a/r stage 2 wheel, theres no concern with top end, although it peaks at redline at ~260whp, if i'm to run closer to 300-325whp, - it would probably peak a bit lower.. around 7500-8000rpm. the advantage is having torque come in much earlier and quicker response.
