D16z6 eBay turbo.
Whattup? So I know this post will get some hater *** replys but for the people who have actually done it..
What are your opinions/reviews of an eBay turbo kit?
How much power did you gain? (Dyno numbers or just by driving the car, did it seem to gain significant power?)
How much more fun was it to drive?
How did it sound? (Spool and blow off)
Any other comments?
And of course, any issues?
I know I could only run 6-8 psi safely.
Will I need to tune it immediately? How much would that cost or how could I do it myself?
Just looking to add a little fun to the car, it is my DD but I have another car as well, so it's not that big of a risk if the engine explodes in a few months (since I plan on swapping with a b series and turbo this winter, which is basically why i only wanna get a cheap eBay kit).
Thanks guys!
Btw.. 93 del sol si d16z6 vtec, 130k, runs great.

Measuring power by PSI means you don't have a grasp on what it is you're thinking about doing. Thinking about PSI in terms of what is safe/not safe is uninformed and unsafe.
There is a Forced Induction forum for these questions. Lots of build threads and dyno charts. All you have to do is look for them.
Trying to get by on having no tune is downright asinine. The tune is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the whole build. Skimp out and that Ebay turbo just might take your engine with it when it dies.
If you don't care about the engine blowing up then I don't understand why you're even asking this question.
And this smacks of bench racing anyway.

Re: D16z6 eBay turbo.
Why waste money on a turbo kit you are only going to get rid of if you plan to swap your car in less than 6 months? Sounds like you are just cheap to me. Anyone that really has plans to swap out the motor would invest the money you would spend on your D series on parts for the B series.
There are always people out there that are going to vouch for cheap parts. And there are always people out there who will say bad things about good parts. What you need to do is average it out. The ebay kits are cheap for a reason. The parts that they use are much lower quality. It may work, but you never know how well or how long.
The reason people are against the ebay kits is because more than likely it will break and you will just end up spending more money on parts anyway. Might as well do it right the first time and avoid the worry and hassle of having low quality parts.
Tuning is an essential aspect of a reliable turbo setup. Dnyo time and tuning from a professional is going to cost more than your ebay turbo kit. If you don't do it right you are risking your motor and you won't be making maximum power.

Re: D16z6 eBay turbo.
6-8 PSI (safely) what does that even mean??? PSI is only relevant to the turbo in use!!!From your post, it shows that you have at least 6 months of research to do before you will even be close to bolting a turbo kit on your motor!!!

hasn't everyone come to realize that when people talk 6-8psi, or low boost, then mean small turbos.
or you know.. the classic "t3t4" which could be literally anything
how many people are like " I'm just gonna run 6psi.. on a GT45R"
take it in terms of T25 size.

Don't assume. All he knows it's an Ebay kit. He has no clue what turbo is even in it. I'm pretty sure of it. And if he does he couldn't tell you anything about it. AND he's talking about running it untuned!!!
