D16Y8 turbo
This is irrelevant but i have a d16y8 and plan on boosting it. Nothing crazy lol, the turbo is a Garrett td04 off of a Subaru and ill probably be running it on 9 or 10 psi. I have read that the stock map sensor can handle 11 psi but i was wondering if i should just get a bigger bar map sensor? Can anyone help?

Re: D16Y8 turbo
Subaru has never used Garrett turbos... ever.
and psi doesn't matter, the power level does. you'll do well to get 225hp out of that turbo due to the tiny turbine wheel and exhaust housing.
probably a good thing because the safe limit for y8 rods is about 225hp.
but you can't just throw the turbo on and do nothing to support it... first finding a manifold with the right flange is impossible, no one has ever made a Honda manifold with a Subaru flange, so it's going to be 100% custom.
then you need a stronger clutch, bigger fuel pump, injectors, a way to tune, a wideband, bigger exhaust and downpipe, intercooler piping, intercooler, blow off valve, etc..
it's not just toss a turbo on and expect it to work.

Re: D16Y8 turbo
more than likely. the hardest part is going to be building the turbo manifold. he won't break any power records but it will make one responsive, fun street car.. assuming it's done properly with the right parts, quality parts, and a good tune.

1. tires that grip the power
2. Brakes that fall right in line with the tire's limits
3. Suspension that suits your needs
4. chassis strengthening to suit the power
5. add the power

Re: D16Y8 turbo
Honestly most Honda owners never factor suspension, tires, or proper braking systems into the build... they only care about power and cosmetics. hence setups with 10,000 dollar motors, **** tires, stock brakes, and eBay/Chinese suspension parts.
These are the same people that wonder why they have horrible traction issues, a car that rides and handles like ****, and can't stop worth a ****.
going fast is only a third of the equation... you still have to be able to turn and stop.

Re: D16Y8 turbo
Also I went with an eBay turbo kit.. I know it was a bad choice lol. But the car ran good on 8 psi for two whole years. Ended up putting it all back to stock and sold the car. I now have a s2000 and I'm not cutting corners on anything with it.
