At this point I am sure that the grayish/white smoke is not from the turbo or coolant. The smoke is there with no oil flow to the turbo and not loosing any coolant or any coolant in oil. It also smokes if there is no coolant in the motor. If the smoke is neither the turbo nor the head gasket so it must be fuel. My wideband readings are really lean but if I add more fuel the smoking stops, maybe the wideband is not reading accurately. I don’t have any before and after pictures of my fuel tables I am not sure why adding fuel stops it.

Will really lean condition cause excess blow by? My pcv is going back into my intake manifold and if I pull the hoses it is a little wet.

also when the plugs are pulled they have no oil on them just fuel

Took it out for a short drive and it was pretty uneventful, other than the smoke and my hood flying open anyway it doesn’t feel like 7.4 comp at all. Little bitch bites, also my bov never opened so all I could here was the turbo surging. Have to get that fixed before I go to the tuner, will probably just buy another one.

not meaning to hijack your thread but,
i just read all 180 posts and couldnt stop.
i know its old subject now, but you could have converted the auto ecu to manual. and i was wondering about the turbo cooling. If it were possible to use the transmission cooling ports from/to the radiator?

I like what you are doing, nows not the time to get impatient, though.

On the bottom on the radiator there is an open port that I capped off, I could have used that. I was trying to keep the coolant separate from the turbo to try and keep the temps down. After I got it working I scratched the idea since it took to much space. The pump is still installed since I am going to use it later for a water to air.

Also I know now its not the time to rush things, I am trying my best.

I put insurance today and going to take Sunday/Monday to fix my oil issues. Ordered another restrictor too to fix an issue

I will update this with new photors and videos sometime next week when I have time to pull everything. I have done a few things to try and eliminate some of the problems I am having.

On the 12 of august going to tune it, Going to tow it there but it looks like wont be tuned with the turbo on. Going to take the charge pipes off and go without it, throw it on the dyno, tune it to safe AFR put a 5k rev limit and just drive it for a bit and then go back to tune it again. I guess throwing 25 pounds of boost on 0 miles aint a good thing

Bad news, Oil is inside my charge pipes. Its looking more and more that the turbo is ****ed. My tune is on Thursday so I don't have the time nor money to buy another turbo right now. I have to get this tuned asap with a blown turbo or no turbo, this project is on its 8 months now (my only car). The turbo has no play and spins freely but I think that those couple minutes of 100 psi abuse took its toll. Today started to completely rethink my return and placement of the scavenge pump. There so so much oil in my exhaust that its leaking right through. Completely dumped all those stupid ntp ect fittings and lines and went barbed and rubber. Dropped the scavenge 3 inches and added two restrictors to the oil feed.

Tomorrow going to buy a front crash bar because I am sick and tired of removing and installing my intercooler. With the crash bar I can permanently bolt it to the frame. Then its back on trying to fix this smoke issue and finish all the other electronics

Finally a fn place to bolt my intercooler too, and as an added bonus an FN place to bolt my pump too. Killed two fn birds with this thing, but it was a total pain in the *** to get it and don't feel like typing it out again so w/e

I am damn tired, hopefully I cant post a vid of it running tomorrow

Thanks for the encouragement, it does seem like most of my time is being spend correcting problems. Friends have helped a lot so it hasn't been that bad, I did get a good amount done today, finally finished my pump. Pretty sure I fixed my bov issue among other things.

The laptop that has my ecu configured, I didn't have access to today and probably not tomorrow either. So I will setup another one and spend the night studying similar setups maps and try to create a basemap I can bring in to the tuner. I will try it tomorrow to see how it works as well. I will try to put up pictures too, also the bay looks cleaner now since a buddy cleaned it up for me... Guess it will be more presentable to the tuner instead of a thrown together mess, looks nice a pretty now .... the vacuum mess and the hf manifold did mask the loads of cash I have poured on this thing

Brought it to the dyno yesterday but nothing really happened. I pulled the turbo the day before and cleaned everything off and added a bunch of restrictors to stop oil. It did stop smoking when I put it back to together, and as a bonus my wideband started working. Putting it on the trailer it started again, I tried to get a stock manifold to tune for N/A but the junkyard wanted 100 for it. It was rusted right through but I guess all junkyards pull prices out of their asses. A few days before another one asked 75 for the crash bar and I bought it brand new for $18 a few hours later.

It doesn't go IN the uhaul... BTW I was severely ripped for this truck, this is the last time I ever rent from these ******** again.

Anyway its back to wrenching

My probs with this rebuild,, there are two c-clips inside that I kinda don want to pull cause it going to be a pain to put back. The other problem is that the rebuild kit came with a piece that I am 100 percent sure I didn't pull from the turbo. No idea where it goes

Ok ready for attempt number 2, just have to fix my return on my motor and drop this in. All it needs its to be torqued down to where its balanced. NO shaft play at all, no in and out play and oil seal clicked in properly, lets see wut it does

Time to go back to the dyno. I am looking into a polaris oil system and using my scavenge pump for flow. My high pressure pump is making to much pressure for the turbo and that should fix that.

Total failure on trying to get this running. Screw this whole turbo setup, it just isn't working. I am spending more time fixing it than its worth, so screw it just starting over. Everything but the intercooler and scavenge pump is for grabs.

It was a pain to start the car and it ran for less than 10 minutes. Started it with a .70 and .25 restrictor and oil in the exhaust again. Which pissed me off since I just rebuilt it. This turbo has seen no mileage, it has never spooled and going on the 3rd rebuild, I am done with it, I have spent the last 2 days all over the web looking for a new turbo. I tried to bid on turbos on ebay but I cant see myself paying 3 4 hundred bucks for a turbo with shaft play. Where is the sense in that?? All the other ones are too small for 350 horse on a d. On top of this I also lose my job next month so its looking more and more like I am going to have to get a Chinese turbo.

Anyway the manifold, downpipe, turbo, pipes etc etc is all going to be scraped. If anybody wants something let me know

lookout for deals i bought a 60trim garrett turbo off here for 150
you can find used turbos for 300-400 bucks easily depending on size
just find one with low mileage
Chinese turbo's are hit or miss
