cometic headgaskets
I'm currently rebuilding my motor with an importbuilders b18b block and wanted to know if a cometic headgasket is necessary, i had one on before and the timing belt is a bitch to do with it installed.

Re: cometic headgaskets (SpoolnG2)
If you decide to get the Cometic, order it in advance of when you need it. Most cometic gaskets are special order and the wait is about 2 weeks (from order to your door).
Make sure you get the MLS and not the HP, the HP does not work well with the sleeved blocks.
We have the MLS for $89.95

Re: cometic headgaskets (CivicRyda2k)
The GE, and others I think, use a stepped block. The sleeves site 0.004" (I believe) above the deck height. GE does this to aid in sealing the combustion chamber.
The HP headgasket works on the same premise, but Cometic includes what they call a fire ring or bore shim.
One or the other works fine, but the both together is too much and the cylinder doesn't seal.
Hope that explains it. I also PMed back those who sent PMs.
