Can my block be saved? Pics inside
I have recently aquired this B16A2 engine block. The guy I got it from blew out the #4 piston (spraying a 75 shot). As you can see the top of it is chipped and the sleeve is royaly fucked up. As for the pics of the back of the block i was wondering what all these little lines are... they look like cracks but i can catch the ridge with my fingernail...I was wondering if this was normal also.
Can this thing be saved and if so does it just need to be resleeved, pistons and rods?

definately needs to be cleaned up before you do anything, those spider cracks are most likely just dirty casting flaws, you can clean em up with grinding if you want, if i see that cylinder right it is delaminated and maybe cracked for sure new sleeves. pistons depend on their condition, were they also damaged when #4 went???? rods same ????.
hard to tell as your pics take up more than a page each.

If those cracks don't leak then the blcok is fine. Just re-sleeve it or bore the bajesus out of it.
Also if you want to be safe, throw a lil JB weld on the deper cracks.

I don't see any cracks that look like they are going to be a problem. Have the block bead blaster or acid dipped (preferably bead blasted) and paint the block with high temp paint. It will be as good as new after that and resleeving.

the pics of the outside of the block don't look like cracks to me. they look like flash from the mold that the block was cast in. I have been fooled into thinking that they were cracks as well on my own blocks when oil and dirt get in there.

You want to see a messed up block? I will post pictures of my block this weekend. After acid dipping, resleeving, jet washing and painting it with hi temp paint it looks damn good now. Looked exactly like your block does.

If u don't care about the cosmetic appearnce of your block, clean it and sleeve it put it in and ride!
I am bead blasting, sanding, and painting mine over the winter

I agree with everyone else... You see those "cracks" on every Honda block, some have more than others but they are in fact just traces in the casting... If for some reason I'm missing something and they are cracked I'm sure you could TIGed... I can't tell how deep the scoring is but I definately wouldn't go more than 1 millimeter over on stock sleeves (0.50mm for me MAX, but I hate stock sleeves)... Though it would cost a bit, I would just resleeve the block (if you still want a B16A bottom end)... Just my $0.02... If it's cracked and the sleeves are beyond overboring get a B18C and resleeve, hehe

The cracks on the block do look like they were due to casting, you will find out once you strip the block down and inspect the inside of it. Let us know if you need any more help.

Re: (GudeH23a)
I will be puttin it on a stand tomorrow and pulling it apart.I have cleaned it up the best I could with some good ol simple green. I have acess to a beadblaster my friend has one at his house (I have no idea why he never uses the thing).
Well with a resleeve, new pistons, and rods I will bring this B16A back to life.
I will keep you guys posted on progress.
Wish me luck on my new project.
