Is this block sleeved?
I purchased a "built" H22A4 engine on craigslist and am trying to figure out if this block is sleeved. I was told it had GE sleeves when i bought it but when i took it apart i cant tell. It had Arias Pistons and Eagle rods so i am hoping it is. Here are a couple pics if someone can tell me either way if i got completely screwed.

open deck vs closed deck, it doesnt matter; both blocks have FRM cylinder walls. The picture is just for reference as to what FRM looks like

Re: Is this block sleeved?
looks like it might have those sleeves that they cut out the actuall steel wall on the stock sleeves and press in an iron sleeve. i remember reading something about doing it like that to repair damaged sleeves on closed deck stuff that can be resleeved. look at the groove around the bottom of the cylinder in the pics. doesnt look like its oem.

Re: Is this block sleeved?
Yeah the walls of the sleeves have like a mirror finish. At first i thought they were stock until i looked at my shot h22a block and it had dull grey cylinder walls. Thats why i needed a second opinion because i didnt know what the A4 cylinders look like. So who has a pic of the stock sleeves in a h22a4? Would they be different in appearance than the dull grey ones in the Jdm h22a? Somebody Anybody?

Re: Is this block sleeved?
it's look like darton 200series sleeves - look at the botom, all 200series are shorter than the stock sleeves and you'll see small piece of old oem sleeves

Re: Is this block sleeved?
It looks to be what some call Dry sleeves. I do believe there are a few people besides Darton that make/ use these. They are deffinitley not FRM sleeves those things are grey and have NO shine to then at all. Not the best but WAY better than stock.

Re: Is this block sleeved?
+1 .. you got juiced ... those walls also have a taper to them.. need to definatly get bord over and a fresh hone.. thus those pistons will no longer work .. double fail

Re: Is this block sleeved?
Sleeved yes, but def not GE sleeves...Not the best sleeve setup, but it will still work fine on mild applications though

Re: Is this block sleeved?
wtf are you talking about? There is no way you could determine the taper without a bore gauge. And yes, it IS sleeved. Please, dont spread your ignorance around

Re: Is this block sleeved?
Definitely a dry sleeve. You can tell by looking at the sleeve base. Not the greatest way of sleeving a block but works well for the H motors. It allows you to use forged aluminum pistons without having the FRM sleeves expand to the point that P2W clearance is zero, lol. Dry sleeves are usually just for stock replacement and do not brace anywhere on the block itself. So works well with your pistons, but stronger? VERY debatable.
