Default Building up a SOHC D-Series for Turbo...need help

k...my turbo dreams seem to only going to be able to come true with a SOHC Turbo, so i'm planning on building up a D Series, now i'm not sure if it's the
D15z1, or d16z6 pretty sure it's the D16z6 though....

anyways, i'm just wondering how i should be going about building it up?

the motor i'm getting has about 190,000km's on it currently with stock internals, stock tranny [gonna have to replace the clutch] and had been running a turbo already for the past 2 years

what i want is to make it reliable with the turbo, as well as boost it a little higher than it was running before [daily at 6psi]

so what am i looking to buy? i dont think i can afford to get it sleeved, so i was thinking taking it apart, but i'm not sure what is the best for the cylinders, should i have it port and polished, Bored out?

i'm also thinking new pistons and rods, cam gears and shaft, maybe injectors???

i'm not very familiar with building up a SOHC for turbo, so if u guys could help me out i would really appreciate it

btw, i'm gettin the motor for only 100$ so yea

What are your goals for the motor/car?
What do you plan on doing with it? drag/daily driven/autox/road coarse
Goal Power level?

All these things need to be addressed before making an educated decision.

Stick with some combo's that are proven. Eagle rods with Arias/JE/CP/Wiseco pistons, ARP head studs, etc. You can make good power without sleeving or porting the head, but with the mileage you have, you should get at least a good valve job and new valve springs.

I second that with the head with so many miles you might need to replace somethings in order to keep it safe. And ya you dont need to re-sleeve just get a good hone from a machine shop for under $50 and your good to go with aftermarket rods and pistons.

mmm i just want like maybe close to 200hp? to the crank?

it's gonna be a daily driver, and all i want it for pretty much is to pull on Ricers, and just have a fun little car to drive

when my buddy had his setup in his EG coupe, he was pulling on GSR hatches, so i asume if i can run more boost with a better engine in my HB, should be pretty quick

i'm planning on keeping suspension fairly stock and just upgrading brakes, i'm cheapin out pretty much, just want boost and a decent reliable setup

If your only looking for 200 crank hp, don't even bother building the motor. The stock one will do just fine.

Well if you want to do around 200whp i wouldnt build anything up. If you want to build it then you should go for more power so you arent wasting your money. I have a D16y8 and i am running 11psi and around 215whp or so i havent redynoed at this pressure yet. You can do 200 easily at the wheels, most people will tell you not to go over 250 whp on D16s the only thing you might want to look into is just a plain old rebuild but then again if you want to build it and you have the money dont waste your time on 200whp

would you have to upgrade your stock injectors to reach 200whp?

ok so what do u guys think i should do?!?

this motor i'm getting has already been running a turbo for sometime, and with that Many K, i'm kinda weary to just buy another turbo kit and slap it on, i really dont have the time to be blowing and swaping out motors

say....i get this motor for 100$, and i have another 900$ to spend in upgrades JUST on the motor

what would u recomend, or is it even worth it?

OR, should i just slap a turbo kit on, and go? this motor still runs fairly well it seems, as it is still in my buddies car, doesnt Blow blue, compression seems fine, only thing that worries me is the K on the car, and the tranny is "breathing" out which u can see the fluid at the seams?

well if u rebuild it with fresh goodies inside... your engine will practicly be new again... are u on a budget? how much $ u got to spend? that would help alot if u want to know what u can do.

if you have 900 you cant really quite afford to build it ...yeah you can get rods and pistons but with highmileage you need to overhaul it especially if you are gonna put the good stuff in it. rebuild it...boost it 200-250whp and you shouldnt have any worries...go ahead and get arp headstuds you can reuse those most likely, when you do put forged internals in the future...cuz you will eventually if you want to do it right with forged internals look to spend a little under 1500 in parts/machining

so how much do u guys think i would have to realisticly spend in Canadian Dollars, to have a reliable setup, ie. making the engine LIKE new, wihout sleaving it?

because it's still so early in the year...really all i want this setup for is Late spring/summer so technically i could wait and build it up
